Job Description

Terrace Cafe, operating within the esteemed Lexington Health network, is seeking a dedicated Food Service Supervisor for a full-time position during the PM shift from 11am to 8pm. This Food Service Supervisor role is crucial within the nutrition services team at Lexington Health, focusing on managing and coordinating activities of the nutrition associates who prepare, serve, and dispose of foods for patients, staff, and visiting guests. The role demands leadership in overseeing daily operations including opening and closing the department, scheduling, discipline, and performance reviews. The supervisor ensures menu development aligns with dietary standards while promoting revenue growth and delivering a superior culinary experience. Responsibilities may span various areas such as production, retail, room service, and utility, making this a dynamic position within a fast-paced healthcare environment.

The supervisor acts as a role model by demonstrating excellent customer relations, effective communication, and maintaining a positive professional demeanor. Working hand-in-hand with nutrition associates, the supervisor plays a hands-on role in meal preparation and service, ensuring quality control and adherence to recipes and portion controls. Further responsibilities include supporting retail operations, overseeing catering functions, managing cash records, and contributing to menu creativity through theme days and specials that drive sales. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum 1 year of experience in food service supervision
  • ServSafe certification required (or obtainable post-hire within 6 months)
  • exceptional communication skills
  • ability to manage diverse teams and deliver excellent customer service
  • demonstrated competence in recipe adherence and management
  • experience in fine dining and catering environments
  • ability to perform hands-on duties and lead by example

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Responsible for delivering consistently high marks for all sanitation and safety practices
  • may assist in overview in catering functions, set up of caterings, etc
  • holds themselves and subordinates accountable for conformity to Service Excellence Policy and Departmental Policies
  • performs all other duties as assigned
  • responsible for morale, retention, training, accountability, and productivity of Nutrition Services staff
  • supervises, instructs, and counsels Nutrition Services employees on productivity and food quality
  • maintains cash records for sales in cafeterias
  • manages retail area operations and personnel
  • creates menus, theme days and specials to promote sales in retail areas
  • ensures timeliness, quality and consistency of catered events and patient trays
  • shares responsibility for monthly food budget with Executive Chef
  • covers main kitchen supervision as needed
  • adheres to menus and waste control
