Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED certificate required
- Reliable transportation to travel to any of the 107 school-based kitchens in the district
- ServSafe certification required
- Ability to communicate and work effectively in a leadership role
- Proficiency in using district computers and peripherals such as printers and handheld scanners
- Knowledge of food preparation, kitchen safety, and compliance with guidelines
- Ability to plan, organize, assign, supervise, evaluate, and inspect staff work
- Good judgment and decision-making skills
- Enthusiastic and pleasant personality
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED certificate
- ServSafe certification required
- Associate degree preferred in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics or related field
- Proven supervisory experience in school food service or fast-food retail preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate in a leadership capacity
- Computer proficiency with Office Suite, word processing and spreadsheets
- Knowledge of food preparation and kitchen safety practices
- Strong judgment, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
- Positive and enthusiastic personality
Job Duties
- Plan, supervise and direct food service programs in accordance with USDA and Michigan Department of Education guidelines
- Ensure safe food handling techniques during all food preparation and service
- Fill in at various schools during staff vacancies and absences
- Use district hardware and software to manage kitchen responsibilities effectively
- Inform principals and supervisors about food service activities and concerns
- Create and maintain good employee morale and relationships
- Establish an atmosphere encouraging students to eat
- Maintain efficient operations and assure policy compliance
- Plan and conduct regular staff meetings
- Organize ongoing training to staff
- Conduct one-on-one check-ins
- Assess performance of staff with the Office of School Nutrition
- Complete all required reports according to USDA and MDE guidelines
- Accurately order and receive all food and paper supplies
- Submit accurate payroll on time
- Maintain production records and submit monthly inventory
- Cook and maintain food production standards
