The Food Service Manager plays a pivotal role within the Market Grille department of Hy-Vee. This exempt-level position involves managing customer service operations to ensure the provision of prompt, efficient, and friendly assistance. The Food Service Manager supports food service department managers by overseeing the freshness, quality, and presentation of food products, maintaining competitive retail pricing, and fostering a pleasant, professional environment for both customers and staff. This role demands a hands-on leader who can effectively manage diverse teams including department managers, chefs, service staff, and night food service employees.

The Food Service Manager is responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction through direct interaction and support, including greeting customers warmly, assisting them in finding products, and addressing any concerns or special requests with patience and care. The position requires actively monitoring food preparation and display, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation according to food safety guidelines, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The manager also plays a strategic role in inventory control, menu planning with chefs, cost estimation, and promotional activities. Supervisory duties include hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating food service personnel while upholding high standards in employee relations and professionalism.

This role involves collaboration with multiple management personnel to coordinate marketing efforts, advertising, and special restaurant functions. Additionally, the manager handles equipment maintenance coordination and investigates any complaints related to food quality or service. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of related experience
  • Ability to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Ability to see clearly at various distances with or without correction
  • Willingness to work night and weekend shifts
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen
  • Commitment to punctuality and attendance
  • Ability to follow company policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of similar or related experience
  • Excellent hospitality skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Ability to guide people and provide basic direction

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing products out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, and passing along suggestions
  • Reviews daily production list and assigns tasks
  • Ensures food display case product rotation and replenishment
  • Oversees food quality and presentation for all relevant departments
  • Works with chefs to plan menus and control provisioning and purchasing
  • Estimates food and beverage costs and supervises portion control
  • Sets department standards for service, cleanliness, and profitability
  • Analyzes sales trends and prepares ads
  • Plans marketing, advertising, and special events
  • Monitors health, safety standards and liquor regulations compliance
  • Investigates and resolves complaints
  • Directs hiring, training, and scheduling of personnel
  • Enforces sanitary practices and food safety guidelines
