The School Board of Broward County, Florida, is a leading educational organization committed to fostering excellence in all facets of student development, including nutrition and wellness. One of the crucial components of their offerings is the Food and Nutrition Services department, which ensures that students receive nourishing, reimbursable meals that meet federal and state standards for quality and safety. This department operates across various schools in the district, including Driftwood Middle School, where they emphasize quality food preparation, professional service, and compliance with health regulations. The commitment to promoting healthy eating habits among students, staff, and the community is reflected in the department’s hiring practices and ongoing training initiatives. As a public education employer, the School Board prioritizes equal employment opportunities and prides itself on maintaining non-discriminatory policies and safe working environments. The position of Food Service Cook IIA at Driftwood Middle School is integral to this mission, supporting meal production that aligns with nutritional guidelines while maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation. The role is offered as a nonexempt, part-time position with a daily work schedule of 6.75 hours, and an hourly wage of $17.23, reflecting the importance of skillful preparation and adherence to standardized procedures within a school setting.
The Food Service Cook IIA is responsible for a variety of skilled food preparation and service tasks within the school’s nutrition services program. The primary goal is to prepare nutritionally adequate and compliant meals that serve the student population effectively and efficiently, ensuring all production deadlines and quality standards are met. In this role, the cook follows established recipes and service procedures, participates in state-approved training programs including sanitation, nutrition, and quantity cooking, and operates food service equipment safely. The person in this role also manages administrative duties such as recording food preparation data, checking in orders, assisting with inventory and ordering processes, and operating point-of-sale systems in accordance with federal guidelines. Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment is essential, including waste disposal, sanitation, and compliance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards. The role may also involve driving vehicles for food delivery between sites when required. This position demands professionalism, good judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to work closely with students, staff, parents, and other Food and Nutrition Services personnel. Overall, this role supports the School Board’s commitment to delivering healthy meals to students while promoting a safe, efficient, and customer-focused nutrition service environment.
