Capital Health is currently looking for a Food Service Cook who will ensure that all food items are prepared, cooked, and recorded according to state guidelines and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) regulations. This role guarantees that food is consistently prepared to the highest standards by following recipes and hygienic cooking methods, applying critical temperature controls, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. The Food Service Cook will be responsible for managing cost-control techniques, minimizing waste, and adhering to safety requirements while preparing meals for patients, staff, and visitors. This position operates within a healthcare setting, emphasizing not only culinary skills but also strict compliance with healthcare food safety standards to support patient well-being. Food preparation follows meticulous logging procedures including temperature charts, roast meat logs, production forecasting sheets, and leftover tracking to comply with HACCP protocols. Additionally, sanitation and cleanliness standards must be diligently maintained, with the use of proper gloves and hair restraints verified regularly by supervisors. Physical demands are typical of active kitchen roles, including lifting, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods. Mental and behavioral abilities are essential to foster collaborative relationships within the team and provide excellent service in a fast-paced environment. The workday consists of 8-hour shifts and the position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Job Requirements

  • associate's degree or culinary certification from accredited cooking school with one year cooking experience
  • or high school diploma or equivalent with five years cooking experience
  • knowledge of food preparation skills
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to work independently
  • ability to build cooperative working relationships with staff, patient families, and visitors
  • ability to follow HACCP regulations and safety protocols
  • willing to work 8-hour shifts in a healthcare food service environment

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • takes accurate temperatures of all food items prepared and records them in temperature logs
  • ensures food is cooked and stored outside temperature danger zones per HACCP regulations
  • utilizes first in, first out method for food preparation
  • follows recipes precisely and tastes food for quality assurance
  • covers, labels, and dates all food items according to HACCP standards
  • records amounts of food prepared and leftovers accurately on production and leftover logs
  • completes sanitation assignments daily, weekly and monthly with signatures
  • uses proper gloves and hair restraints at all times
  • cleans and sanitizes all food surfaces, counters, and equipment thoroughly after use
