We are currently seeking a warm and gracious server who embodies our mission of delighting guests at every turn. The server position is essential to our restaurant’s success and involves engaging with guests in a positive, friendly manner, ensuring their meals are served accurately and promptly, and anticipating their needs throughout their visit. This role requires someone who is attentive, communicative, and passionate about providing excellent customer service. Successful servers at Elmer's are responsible for creating an enjoyable and memorable dining experience by following established service sequences, educating guests on menu offerings, and maintaining an orderly and clean service area.

This is a dynamic role that involves multitasking and problem-solving to swiftly address any issues or questions guests may have. Servers at Elmer's must be knowledgeable about food and beverage options, including understanding and communicating allergy information properly. They also prepare beverages, interact with kitchen and bar staff, and assist with special events as needed. In addition to the front-of-house responsibilities, servers help maintain cleanliness and restock supplies to ensure a smooth dining operation.

Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Valid Food Handler's Card
  • Valid Alcohol Server Permit
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language of the work location
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations and data entry
  • Knowledge of service sequence and dining room procedures
  • Ability to work various shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
  • Ability to stand and be mobile for long periods
  • Ability to lift and carry trays up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Guest sensitivity and good timing
  • Ability to operate POS systems
  • Ability to maintain balance and perform physical tasks such as reaching, bending, and kneeling

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language of the work location and guests
  • Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations and complete computer data entry
  • Must have a valid Food Handler's Card
  • Must have a valid Alcohol Server Permit
  • Must have positive interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to meet the shift's needs of fluctuating business demands
  • Requires knowledge of the sequence of service and dining room procedures with a minimum of one year as a server or front of house support
  • Must be guest sensitive with a sense of timing for serving courses
  • Must make quality decisions with supervisory assistance
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment

Job Duties

  • Follows proper service sequence as defined by ERI
  • Greets guests in a warm and welcoming manner
  • Educates guests on core menu and seasonal menu items
  • Makes suggestions about menu
  • Answers questions regarding food, beverages, and service
  • Takes food and beverage orders from guests and enters order into POS for kitchen staff to prepare
  • Communicates any special requests or allergy issues directly with appropriate kitchen staff
  • Makes note on POS order of any special requests
  • Prepares all non-alcoholic beverage orders and alcoholic beverages when no bartender is available
  • Relays alcohol orders to bartender as appropriate
  • Ensures timely delivery of food and beverages meeting company standards
  • Checks on guest satisfaction within two minutes of food delivery
  • Offers drinks, appetizers, and desserts
  • Replenishes utensils and refills beverages as necessary
  • Pre-busses tables by removing plates, silverware, and condiments
  • Reviews guest checks before delivering
  • Delivers payments to cashier and returns change or credit card slips for signature
  • Assists with special events as needed
  • Assists guests outside of assigned section
  • Cleans tables and seats after guests leave
  • Completes assigned side work and extra projects including cleaning, restocking, and maintenance tasks
