Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years in food safety, quality assurance, or compliance roles preferably in seafood or high-risk food categories
  • Mandatory Seafood HACCP certification
  • Experience working with Alaska seafood operations
  • Experience managing GFSI programs and third-party audits
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, and FSQA issues
  • Ability to train remote teams
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and adaptability to new software tools
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Willingness to work in a remote-first setting with occasional travel
  • Commitment to continuous learning and process improvement

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 5+ years in food safety, QA, or compliance preferably in seafood, frozen foods, or high-risk categories
  • Experience with Alaska seafood operations including processing, tendering, or seasonal QA roles
  • HACCP certified (Seafood HACCP mandatory)
  • PCQI strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with GFSI programs such as SQF, BRCGS, or FSSC 22000 and third-party audits
  • Background in food safety including CPG and e-commerce
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and FSQA issues
  • Experience with third-party, Federal and State auditors
  • Ability to train teams on Food Safety Programs including FSMA and HACCP
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace
  • Adaptability to new systems and processes such as Asana and Looker
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make quick, high-judgment decisions and lead teams through difficult situations
  • Willingness to learn and embrace uncertainty

Job Duties

  • Own and improve Food Safety and Quality Management System across processors, distribution, and seasonal operations
  • Lead and maintain GFSI certification and ensure continuous audit readiness
  • Manage seafood-specific HACCP plans for raw, cooked, frozen, and value-added products
  • Partner with operations teams to ensure GMP, sanitation, allergen, and food defense programs are followed
  • Ensure Alaska-based production meets quality and sustainability guidelines
  • Maintain traceability and chain-of-custody documentation from vessel to consumer
  • Coordinate with seasonal teams on documentation, inspections, and in-region training
  • Deliver engaging remote training on HACCP, GMPs, allergen controls, and seafood safety risks
  • Foster a culture of quality and safety in a digital-first, distributed organization
  • Provide rapid support to cross-functional teams on food safety and quality issues
  • Support role with FDA, USDA, state regulators, and third-party certifiers
  • Support compliance with FSMA and emerging seafood/DTC food regulations
  • Assist with product labeling, specifications, and recall plans
