Job Description

Duke Health is a leading healthcare system dedicated to providing compassionate care that transforms the lives of patients, their families, and the broader community. Recognized for its commitment to excellence and innovation, Duke Health brings together top-tier medical professionals and advanced technologies to deliver outstanding health services across multiple specialties. Among its many campuses, Duke Raleigh Hospital stands out as a key facility located in Raleigh, North Carolina. This hospital, with 204 beds, is the third largest within the Duke Health system and offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including cancer care, cardiovascular treatments, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal procedures, and wound healing care. The hospital’s commitment to patient-centered care is reflected not only in its clinical services but also in its support departments like food service, which play a crucial role in patient recovery and satisfaction.

The role of Food Service Associate at Duke Raleigh Hospital offers an exciting opportunity to join a team dedicated to providing high-quality and nutritious meals to patients, hospital staff, and visitors. This full-time position encompasses a range of responsibilities depending on the level of experience and skills, with two levels defined: Level I and Level II. At Level I, the associate performs routine and intermediate tasks involving food preparation, such as assembling ingredients, reading and interpreting recipes, cooking, and assembling meals that meet hospital standards. The responsibilities include setting up supplies and equipment, operating various food preparation devices, monitoring cooking processes to ensure safe food handling, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in work areas.

At Level II, the role extends to more complex food preparation tasks, such as preparing entrees, casseroles, and special dishes requiring multiple steps. This level also involves lead worker duties, including assisting in the training of new employees and providing guidance to ensure quality and safety standards are met. Both roles require the ability to follow detailed instructions accurately, ensure food safety, and maintain equipment. The position demands a careful eye for detail to detect food quality issues and troubleshoot equipment problems. The work environment emphasizes teamwork, safety, and high standards, offering a chance for those with an interest in culinary practices within a healthcare setting to grow and contribute meaningfully.

Duke Raleigh Hospital values diversity and inclusion, striving to create a supportive and welcoming workplace where every individual feels respected and empowered. Employees are part of a collaborative community that prioritizes innovation and care excellence. This Food Service Associate role is not only about food preparation but also about enhancing the overall patient experience through quality nutrition and service. As part of Duke Health, employees benefit from a stable, respected employer committed to equal opportunity without regard to race, gender, age, or other personal characteristics. This is a full-time employment opportunity ideal for individuals seeking to develop their skills in a dynamic healthcare environment where their work directly impacts patient well-being and hospital success.
