Victory Programs is a well-established organization that has been dedicated to supporting marginalized populations for more than 45 years. Operating over 30 programs with a staff of more than 300, this nonprofit is committed to providing shelter, sustenance, recovery, care, and professional compassionate support to individuals and families facing crises such as homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, and HIV/AIDS. The Boston Living Center (BLC), a key program within Victory Programs, serves as a drop-in day center located in Boston's Back Bay. Since the 1980s, the BLC has been instrumental in erasing stigma and facilitating connections through peer-supported congregate services. It focuses on caring for the whole individual by promoting stabilization and healthy connections throughout the lifespan.

The Food and Nutritional Services Manager at the Boston Living Center holds a vital leadership role responsible for overseeing the administrative and operational services of the Food and Nutritional Services program. Reporting directly to the Program Director, this full-time position (40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, onsite) is crucial to ensuring high-quality nutritional programming for the BLC’s members. With an annual salary of $72,420.40, the manager is entrusted with comprehensive coordination tasks such as menu development, food and supply purchasing, and supervision of staff and volunteers. The role demands proficiency in nutritional counseling, individualized nutrition plans, and collaboration with other community and healthcare organizations to advance the program’s mission.

The Manager is tasked with overseeing daily meal services, a food pantry, and nutritional workshops including cooking classes and individual counseling sessions. They supervise a team comprising a chef, sous chef, and nutritionist along with student interns and volunteers. An essential aspect of the role includes maintaining compliance with statutory and contractual requirements, managing budgets in partnership with the Program Director, monitoring inventories, and facilitating timely reports to funders. The incumbent must demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with a compassionate approach to working with a diverse population.

Job Requirements

  • Valid ServSafe Manager certification
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Completed TB screening or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Registered or licensed dietitian or nutritionist credential
  • Minimum 2 years managerial experience preferred
  • Previous food service experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse team
  • Demonstrated competence in coordinating services
  • Ability to manage budgets and inventories
  • Commitment to professional ethics and client confidentiality

Job Qualifications

  • Registered or licensed dietitian or nutritionist
  • Previous experience providing nutritional services to people living with chronic health conditions preferred
  • Food service experience in a commercial food environment preferred
  • Managerial experience preferred
  • Knowledge of menu planning, implementation, and design
  • Ability to work successfully in multicultural settings
  • Competence in service coordination and networking
  • Experience in nutritional counseling preferred
  • Experience coordinating and evaluating programs
  • Cooperative and supportive team member
  • Strong organizational, writing and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse population
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health and Principles of Harm Reduction
  • ServSafe Manager certification required
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds

  • Three professional references including at least two managers or supervisors

Job Duties

  • Act in accordance with Victory Programs' Standards of Excellence including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries and client confidentiality
  • Develop all menus for the BLC meals program
  • Purchase all food and supplies for the Food and Nutrition Services Program
  • Provide individual nutrition counseling sessions
  • Work with members to develop individualized nutrition plans managing illness, medication side effects and promoting wellness
  • Coordinate and oversee nutritional programming including cooking classes, nutrition workshops and individual sessions
  • Oversee general operation of the BLC daily meals program
  • Provide operational oversight to the BLC food pantry
  • Hire, train, evaluate and supervise food and nutritional services staff and interns
  • Provide daily supervision for volunteers in conjunction with Volunteer Coordinator and Nutritionist
  • Ensure program compliance with statutory and contractual requirements
  • Oversee yearly budget for meals program in partnership with Program Director
  • Oversee regular inventory of supplies
  • Facilitate reports and contractual requirements from funders regarding programming
  • Assist with crisis intervention
  • Maintain communication with Program Director and other managers
  • Collaborate with community and healthcare organizations
  • Attend weekly supervision
  • Maintain required licensing certifications
