Job Description
This job opening is with a reputable assisted living facility specializing in providing quality care and services to elderly residents. The establishment prides itself on maintaining a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for its residents, ensuring that their health, comfort, and satisfaction are paramount. The facility operates a Food and Beverage department committed to delivering excellent meal services tailored to meet the diverse nutritional needs of its residents. The culture here emphasizes respect, compliance with health and safety standards, and a genuine dedication to enhancing the residents' dining experience. The workplace fosters a sense of community and teamwork, supporting staff in their professional development while valuing their contributions.
The Food and Beverage Coordinator role is a pivotal supervisory position within the facility’s Food & Beverage department. This role is responsible for overseeing all departmental staff, managing the budget, and ensuring strict adherence to federal, state, and local regulations. The coordinator must provide prompt and exemplary meal services that cater to residents’ dietary restrictions, including low-sodium and low-sugar diets, allergies, and other special needs. An essential part of the job is planning weekly menus based on nutritional guidelines set by a Registered Dietitian and aligning with company policies. The coordinator directs daily dining room and kitchen operations, maintains a quality assurance program for food standards, and monitors the presentation and temperature of meals. They are expected to cultivate positive resident relations by engaging with new residents and responding efficiently to their requests or complaints.
In addition to overseeing meal service quality, the coordinator manages food and non-food inventory, ensuring timely ordering, correct storage, and proper rotation of supplies. They are responsible for controlling food costs through regular inventory audits and waste reduction strategies, including proper food storage and recycling techniques. The position also involves coordinating special event catering and ensuring that all kitchen equipment is maintained or replaced when necessary. Maintaining detailed departmental records and reports, including food costs, personnel attendance, and equipment repairs, is a critical function, particularly in preparation for health department inspections. Acting as the facility's representative during these inspections, the coordinator assures full compliance and addresses any deficiencies promptly.
The ideal candidate will have at least a high school diploma or GED, with one to two years of related food service management experience, preferably in assisted living, retirement housing, long-term care, or similar environments. Culinary institute certification and relevant food handling licenses are advantageous. Having SERV-SAFE certification and CPR/First Aid certification is desirable. This role offers comprehensive healthcare plans, paid time off including vacation, personal days, and holidays, as well as retention and referral bonuses, and tuition assistance. The employer is an Equal Opportunity Employer and maintains a drug-free workplace, complying fully with federal employment laws and advocating for fairness and diversity in employment practices.
