This full-time, non-exempt position within the Auxiliary - Food Service department is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food preparation and nutrition in an educational setting. Reporting directly to the Food and Nutrition Services Manager at Black Elementary School, this role is crucial to ensuring that students and staff have access to food that meets strict quality, sanitation, and safety standards. The position entails preparing appropriate quantities of food to meet district requirements, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen space, adhering to all health and safety protocols, and contributing positively to the nutrition program's overall success. Duties also include managing equipment safely, assisting with inventory and food storage, and performing cashier functions accurately. The role requires consistent attendance and a responsible approach to completing daily tasks and reports.

The candidate will be part of a dynamic team that supports the healthy growth of students through effective food service practices aligned with local, state, and federal regulations. The position requires familiarity with kitchen equipment, standardized recipes, and strict adherence to hygiene and food safety procedures, including obtaining and maintaining certifications like the Health Department Food Handlers Card and Manager Certification. Job Requirements

  • Education high school diploma or equivalent
  • must be able to read and interpret recipes
  • ability to follow oral instructions for food preparation and safety procedures
  • certified fitness evaluation required
  • health department Food Handlers Card obtained within 30 calendar days of employment
  • completion and maintenance of an accredited sanitation course certification
  • must have completed and maintain Manager Certification
  • working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production required
  • awareness of district, state and federal Child Nutrition Programs requirements
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to manage time appropriately
  • ability to work independently without constant supervision
  • experience with large-scale cooking and food preparation preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested, standardized recipes
  • assist with the storage and care of food items and supplies
  • maintain a clean and organized storage area
  • care for and use equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • serve food according to meal schedules, departmental procedures and policies
  • follow established procedures to ensure standards of quality, compliance, cleanliness, health, and safety
  • handle and record cashier functions accurately
