Job Description
CarMax is one of the nation's largest and most trusted used car retailers, known for transforming the car-buying experience with integrity and customer-centric services. Based in Murrieta, California, the company focuses on providing an exceptional shopping environment along with an innovative, transparent vehicle purchasing process. CarMax has established a robust reputation as a leader in the used vehicle market, emphasizing quality, convenience, and a hassle-free experience for both customers and associates. Employees at CarMax benefit from a dynamic work environment where diversity, continuous learning, and professional development are actively encouraged. The company values its associates and offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for career growth within the automotive retail industry.
This position is based at the CarMax location in Murrieta, California, specifically at 25560 Madison Avenue. The role is designated as hourly and provides a competitive wage of $21.28 per hour. The appointment offers an engaging, fast-paced work environment where associates contribute directly to the retail lot operations and overall customer satisfaction.
The General Inventory Associate role at CarMax involves a variety of critical responsibilities that are essential to maintaining the efficient flow and presentation of the vehicle inventory. Working under general supervision, this position requires associates to execute zone maintenance duties, handle vehicle receiving and shipping operations, conduct inventory scanning, and manage vehicle movement on and off the lot. In addition, this role involves lot washing and merchandising, taking and uploading vehicle photographs to the CarMax website, and delivering exceptional customer service both internally and externally.
Associates in this role work collaboratively with a team to ensure that vehicle display areas and in-progress zones are well maintained, organized, and secure. They support the sales team by prepping vehicles and title packets for shipment to other locations and participate in processes like photo station operations and inventory validation. The position also entails physically demanding tasks such as washing and vacuuming customer return and loaner vehicles, transporting vehicles for repairs or storage, and supporting auction activities when applicable.
CarMax expects associates in this role to actively participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives with their team, and to help train new associates under supervision. Workplace cleanliness and organization are maintained via adherence to CarMax 5S standards, promoting a professional and safe environment. The company emphasizes adherence to all OSHA, EPA, and company policies including the use of personal protective equipment and proper waste disposal.
Overall, this position offers a blend of physical activities and customer service responsibilities, ideally suited for individuals who thrive in a high-energy, outdoor work environment, and who are committed to upholding the standards of CarMax’s professional appearance and operational excellence. With flexible scheduling that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, this role is vital in supporting the seamless operations of the Murrieta CarMax location while providing opportunities for skill development and career advancement in the automotive retail sector.
