Job Description
The Shubert Theatre, located in New Haven, Connecticut, is a historic and distinguished not-for-profit arts, education, and community institution dedicated to enriching the cultural fabric of the region. Established in 1914, the theatre stands as a significant landmark in downtown New Haven and is renowned for its intimate and immersive live theatrical experience. Over the years, the Shubert Theatre has evolved into a vibrant hub for Broadway shows, music, and dance performances, serving a broad and diverse community throughout Connecticut. Owned and operated by CAPA, a Connecticut-based not-for-profit organization, the theatre upholds a legacy of offering exceptional programming that spans different genres and styles, ensuring that patrons from all backgrounds have access to high-quality cultural events. Its historic charm, combined with modern comfort including a spacious lobby and new seating, makes it a beloved venue for both performers and audiences alike.
This opportunity is for the position of Floor Manager, a vital role within the Shubert Theatre's front-of-house team. As a Floor Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring a welcoming, safe, and smooth experience for all patrons while facilitating the work of volunteers and communicating effectively with management. The primary responsibility centers around on-site event management in all public areas, with a focus on customer service excellence, community engagement, and patron safety. This role requires a proactive, hands-on leader who excels in a dynamic environment and can inspire volunteer teams to deliver outstanding service. The position demands a flexible schedule, including the need for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, reflecting the theatre's active programming calendar. With a base pay of $18 per hour, this role also offers the chance to be part of New Haven’s cultural heartbeat, ensuring that each performance at the Shubert Theatre is memorable and enjoyable for all attendees. The Floor Manager will supervise Usher Captains and volunteers, oversee safety and housekeeping concerns, support special events, and liaise with operations management to maintain high standards of service and security. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about the performing arts and committed to fostering a positive and inclusive environment within a historic cultural institution.
