The role of Float Chef at Ebenezer is an exciting and vital position within the corporate float team. This full-time role requires a dedicated professional who is versatile, mobile, and capable of effectively fulfilling chef vacancies across various Ebenezer locations. The work schedule includes 80 hours every two weeks, designed as day and early evening shifts lasting 10 hours each, with commitments every other weekend and variations during weekdays. The Float Chef is responsible not only for the preparation and presentation of meals according to established recipes and nutritional standards but also plays a critical role in supporting site dining staff, conducting kitchen inspections, and ensuring compliance with health and sanitation regulations.

In addition to hands-on cooking and food preparation, the Float Chef mentors and trains other chefs, provides technical support for food service systems, helps organize special events, and assists with menu planning. The position demands a high level of attention to detail in tasks such as maintaining food safety protocols—including handling texturized diets per the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization (IDDSI)—ensuring timely meal production and service, and upholding kitchen cleanliness and hygiene. The Float Chef also takes on supervisory responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor, ensuring daily operations run smoothly and customer feedback concerning meal quality and service is addressed effectively. Compensation for this role is a flat rate of $29.00 per hour, reflecting the expertise and flexibility required to succeed in this dynamic position.   • must be 18 or older
  • food sanitation safety certification within 90 days or certified food protection manager within 90 days

Job Qualifications

  • 0 to 1 year of previous experience
  • must be 18 or older
  • food sanitation safety certification within 90 days or certified food protection manager (must be issued in the state of Minnesota for locations in Minnesota) within 90 days
  • vocational school/technical training or associate degree in food service preferred
  • one to three years of previous experience preferred
  • working knowledge of basic Microsoft applications preferred

Job Duties

  • Maintains float schedule and supports on-site dining staff
  • fills in for chef vacancies at various Ebenezer locations
  • conducts regular site kitchen inspections to ensure compliance with health and sanitation
  • mentors chefs
  • provides training to chefs
  • assists with special events
  • assists with planning menus
  • provides technical support related to Point, Click, Care
  • assists with interviews for site staff
  • assists with health inspections
  • properly cooks foods to specified temperatures
  • ensures products meet temperature and quality standards
  • follows standardized recipes and products to ensure consistency in quality and nutritional value
  • weighs and measures ingredients per standardized recipes
  • uses correct portioning utensils
  • assembles food within specified time frames
  • ensures production and meal service is provided in a timely manner
  • prepares bakery items per standardized recipes
  • accurately completes tasks listed on daily preparation sheets
  • prepares texturized diets using International Dysphagia Diet Standardization (IDDSI)
  • handles and prepares food in a safe manner following infection control and safety policies
  • takes and documents temperatures of food items and makes appropriate adjustments
  • follows established hand washing procedures
  • wears gloves when preparing and serving food
  • follows department dress and personal hygiene codes
  • follows employee health guidelines to prevent disease transmission
  • covers and labels food with content and date
  • sanitizes equipment and work area after each use
  • maintains clean work area
  • cleans and sanitizes equipment according to schedule
  • uses appropriate equipment and chemicals as recommended
  • maintains separate clean and dirty areas in work area
  • scrubs pots and pans in the 3-compartment sink area
  • supervises kitchen staff
  • responsible for daily operations in absence of supervisor
  • responsible for resident and guest customer service in absence of supervisor
  • communicates feedback from residents and guests regarding quality of meals and food service
