Once training is successfully completed and base orientation is attended in one of United’s designated hubs, flight attendants officially begin their full-time careers with the company. Job Requirements

  • pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens
  • complete background checks and fingerprinting
  • pass vision and hearing tests meeting FAA standards
  • ability to hear all sound ranges
  • effectively communicate in high-stress situations
  • pass a ten-year criminal background check
  • travel eligibility to all United served countries without restrictions
  • physically able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull beverage carts
  • pass a functional reach assessment
  • ability to sit in a jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened
  • follow uniform and appearance guidelines including tattoo restrictions
  • willingness to complete an evacuation drill in water
  • willing to work on scheduled/reserve shifts including weekends, holidays, and nights
  • able to serve and sell food and beverages diligently
  • hold a valid passport book and required visas before training begins
  • comply with no use of marijuana products due to safety sensitivity

Job Qualifications

  • be 21 years of age or older at time of application
  • have a high school diploma or GED
  • 2 or more years of college preferred
  • possess at least one year of customer service experience in service industries such as retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, or social service
  • speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard in emergencies
  • have fluency in English with proficiency in a second language highly desirable
  • maintain professional appearance and grooming standards
  • be able to operate electronic devices proficiently
  • possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of remaining validity
  • legally authorized to work in the United States
  • able to work flexible schedules supporting a 24/7 operation
