Job Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalent, or high school proficiency certificate
  • At least 18 years of age at date of final filing of application
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License, or a valid Class A or B Commercial California Driver’s License and a valid Medical Examiner’s Card must be maintained
  • Possession of a valid California DMV Firefighter Endorsement within six months of employment
  • National Registry EMT-P Certification or California Paramedic License with current and continuous certifications
  • All certifications must remain current and not expire during the first six months of employment
  • Passage of the Cal-JAC CPAT and FCTC Written Test within one year of application deadline (on or after July 28, 2024)
  • Placement on the FCTC Statewide Eligibility List by July 28, 2025
  • Applicants not on the FCTC SEL and without CPAT and EMT-P cards attached to their application will not move forward

Job Qualifications

  • National Registry EMT-P Certification or California Paramedic License with current and continuous certifications
  • Valid Class C California Driver’s License or valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with Medical Examiner’s Card
  • Possession of a valid California DMV Firefighter Endorsement within six months of employment
  • Knowledge of fire department operations, emergency medical procedures at ALS level, fire protection equipment and systems, hazard materials, federal, state, and local laws
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly during emergencies, perform rescues, operate and maintain vehicles and equipment, teach classes, communicate effectively, write reports, and relate well with the public
  • Computer skills for maintaining data and preparing reports

Job Duties

  • Responds to and performs skilled tasks at scenes of emergency calls including fire, medical emergencies, rescues, hazard identification, hazardous materials spills, public assistance and service
  • Safely drives and operates vehicles, apparatus and equipment
  • Teaches fire safety, CPR, CERT and other classes and participates in public education demonstrations and activities
  • Performs emergency medical procedures as a paramedic
  • Conducts fire inspections as part of the Annual Fire Company Inspection Program
  • Communicates clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Operates computers and uses required software
