Job Requirements
- Minimum 4,000 hours logged flying time in turbine-engine helicopters with at least 100 hours within the last 12 months
- Minimum 500 hours logged flying time in twin turbine-engine helicopters
- Minimum 1,500 hours flying as Pilot-in-Command in mountainous terrain defined by complex terrain and elevations over 5,000 feet
- Possession of valid Airline Transport Pilot or Commercial Pilot Certificate with rotorcraft-helicopter and instrument rating issued by FAA
- Possession of valid First or Second Class Aviation Medical Certificate under 14 CFR Part 67
- Valid California Class C Driver License at time of hire
- Must obtain County of San Diego Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) card within one year of employment
- Ability and willingness to comply with all pre-employment screening including medical, drug testing, and background checks
- Eligibility to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- Valid Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with rotorcraft-helicopter and instrument rating issued by FAA
- Valid First or Second Class Aviation Medical Certificate
- Extensive logged flying time in turbine-engine helicopters
- Experience flying as Pilot-in-Command in mountainous terrain
- Ability to operate special aircraft equipment including external loads and rescue hoists
- Effective communication and coordination skills for multi-agency emergency operations
- Knowledge of aviation safety protocols and emergency response procedures
- Experience in night flying using night vision goggles highly desirable
- Certified or willing to obtain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification within one year of hire
Job Duties
- Operate helicopters for emergency and non-emergency responses
- transport firefighting personnel and medical teams to incident sites
- conduct aerial surveillance and communicate fire activity information
- perform aerial fire suppression by dropping fire retardants or water
- operate special aircraft equipment such as rescue hoists and FLIR technology
- act as Helicopter Coordinator during multi-agency emergency incidents
- conduct daily pre-flight and post-flight inspections and maintenance checks
- provide aviation training and orientation to public safety personnel
- participate in continuous aviation training programs
- report all flight safety information and adhere to departmental policies
