Job Description
The Berkeley City Club is a historic and architecturally significant hotel, event space, restaurant, bar, and social club located in the vibrant Southside district of Berkeley, California. Opened in 1930 as the Berkeley Women’s City Club, this landmark building was designed by renowned architect Julia Morgan who infused her unique Moorish-gothic vision into the structure. With soaring arches, intricate ornamental architecture, inviting courtyards, and a stunning indoor pool, the Berkeley City Club is not only an emblem of local history but also a cherished destination for visitors and locals alike. Conveniently situated just one block from the University of California Berkeley campus, the club provides an enriching environment that combines history, community, and modern hospitality.
The Berkeley City Club offers diverse amenities including cozy, time-honored guest rooms for overnight stays, exclusive private event spaces perfect for weddings and other celebrations, and a unique dining experience through Julia’s Restaurant and Morgan’s Bar & Lounge. Beyond its services to guests and visitors, the club maintains a thriving membership program, offering exclusive perks such as members-only events and activities, discounts, and daily access to the pool and fitness facilities.
We are seeking a welcoming and professional individual with a warm “people person” disposition to join our team as a Host/Hostess for our restaurant. This role is pivotal to creating exceptional first impressions and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all guests and members entering our restaurant. As the first point of contact, the Host/Hostess will greet patrons warmly, manage reservations efficiently, and handle guest inquiries both in person and via phone and email communications. This position requires an individual who is organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively while maintaining excellent interpersonal skills.
This role demands proficiency with reservation systems such as OpenTable, familiarity with point of sale software including Clubessential, and a good command of Microsoft Outlook and Word. Ideal candidates will have at least two years of fine dining hosting experience and a high school diploma. The successful applicant should be adaptable, eager to learn, culturally open, and committed to delivering top-notch customer service in a multicultural environment. At the Berkeley City Club, you will be part of a historic institution with a sense of community and an enthusiastic team, backed by opportunities for personal growth and development. Join us in this unique setting where history meets hospitality, and where your contribution will help create memorable dining experiences for everyone who walks through our doors.
