In line with this mission, the YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a highly motivated Family Experience Coordinator to join its dynamic and diverse team. This position plays an essential role in overseeing and administering family-focused programs and services that enhance community engagement and support family development. The Family Experience Coordinator will be directly responsible for managing key programs such as Stay 'N Play, Interactive Zone, Birthday Party rentals, and various youth and family programs. This role requires a candidate who can provide operational leadership, execute program development, and uphold high-quality standards to ensure that programs are meaningful, accessible, and beneficial to participants.

As a Family Experience Coordinator at the YMCA, you will be expected to take initiative in fiscal management, plan and implement innovative programs, and foster strong relationships with families, participants, staff, and the broader community. The role involves direct service delivery, supervising an hourly youth staff team, managing program scheduling and payroll, and actively supporting the YMCA’s mission through community outreach and participation in key campaigns such as the Annual Giving Campaign. You will also be responsible for ensuring program compliance with YMCA quality guidelines, promoting a safe and welcoming environment, and maintaining operational efficiency across your areas of responsibility.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and pull 50 pounds
  • must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • must be able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, run and climb unassisted
  • must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications
  • must be able to perform the duties of direct reports
  • subject to satisfactory results from criminal background and reference checks, E-Verify, drug test, driver’s license record, and/or Child Protective Services check
  • additional background checks may be required post-hire
  • able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • minimum age 18

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum two years programmatic experience as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs
  • strong management and development skills to facilitate positive relationships with participants, members, staff and volunteers
  • minimum of 18 years of age
  • degree preferred in Early Childhood Education or related field or working towards a degree

Job Duties

  • Support association’s goals and objectives
  • assist in fiscal management in all areas of responsibility
  • plan, develop and implement programming for Stay and Play, Interactive Zone, Youth and Family Programs and related programs
  • communicate the YMCA mission and objectives to the community
  • participate in assigned aspects of the Annual Giving Campaign
  • plan, develop, implement and supervise Family Programs, Birthday Party Rentals, Stay N’ Play and Interactive Zone areas
  • provide strong leadership and support for attaining association’s goals and objectives
  • assist the Regional Senior Program Director in fiscal management including structuring and implementing youth and family programs
  • manage and provide leadership to Youth Programs, Family Programs, Stay ‘N Play and Interactive Zone
  • provide direct service in Youth Programs and related areas
  • directly supervise the hourly youth staff team
  • manage payroll and schedules of staff within the program areas
  • handle direct staff coverage related to shortages and absences
  • monitor achievement of program objectives and assure high-quality programs and services
  • assist in purchasing, inventory and delivery of program supplies
  • assist in program promotion and increasing enrollment
  • provide support in administrative paperwork including participant files and program evaluations
  • ensure YMCA quality program guidelines adherence
  • participate in Design Teams, training and meetings
  • conduct staff training and evaluations
  • assist in recruitment and supervision of staff and volunteers
  • ensure safety, cleanliness and function of facilities and equipment
  • ensure program operations comply with association procedures
  • maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • perform other duties assigned by Senior Program Director or Executive Director
  • participate in Annual Support Campaign with active leadership in giving and community division
  • communicate the YMCA mission and objectives to the community
