Job Description
U-Haul is a well-established company that has been serving do-it-yourself movers and their households since 1945. Originating from a need identified after World War II for accessible moving equipment available on a one-way nationwide basis, U-Haul grew from a simple idea into a major player in the moving and storage industry. The company was co-founded by L.S. "Sam" Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, who revolutionized the concept of shared ownership of moving equipment, making mobility feasible for populations across the U.S. and Canada. Over the decades, U-Haul has evolved into a network that offers a wide range of moving, storage, and relocation solutions through its family of companies. Its signature orange trailers and trucks have become a recognizable symbol of do-it-yourself moving across North America.
U-Haul is known for creating a supportive and inclusive workplace culture, emphasizing health and wellness for its team members. This includes policies such as restricting hiring individuals who use nicotine products in certain states as of 2020, reflecting their commitment to a healthier workforce. The company prides itself on being an equal opportunity employer, providing accommodations during the selection process and promoting diversity in its hiring practices.
The Facility Housekeeper role at U-Haul plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and welcoming atmosphere of the U-Haul facilities. The position involves various custodial duties that ensure storage units, hallways, restrooms, elevators, and other areas within the facility are kept in pristine condition. Facility Housekeepers are responsible not only for cleaning but also managing supplies and assisting with general upkeep as needed. It is a role that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the willingness to take initiative and learn on the job.
U-Haul offers a comprehensive benefits package to Facility Housekeepers, including career stability, opportunities for advancement, and valuable on-the-job training. Employees have access to life insurance, legal programs, auto and home insurance discounts, and other perks such as technology and travel discounts. Paid holidays, vacation, and sick days are provided if eligible, along with 401(k) plans and stock options. Health insurance including prescription plans, dental and vision care, subsidized gym memberships, and Employee Assistance Programs are also part of the benefits offered to support the well-being of U-Haul’s workforce.
Physically, the role demands moderate exertion, such as handling equipment weighing 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and performing cleaning duties around the facility. Safety is a priority, and protective gear including masks, gloves, and goggles may be required, especially when dealing with cleaning chemicals or operating near machines. This position is ideal for those who are proactive, self-starters, and can work safely and efficiently in a physically active environment. U-Haul values the contribution of Facility Housekeepers as essential to delivering the exceptional service experience that defines the brand. This position offers a pathway to a fulfilling career with growth potential within a reputable organization committed to employee development and well-being.
