Among these roles is the position of Spelling Bee Coordinator, an extracurricular assignment specifically designed for professional personnel within the district. This position represents a unique opportunity for a regularly employed professional educator to take on a leadership role that directly impacts student achievement and celebrates academic talents at the county level. The Spelling Bee Coordinator is a critical role responsible for organizing, managing, and overseeing the annual spelling bee competition, which brings together students from across Putnam County. The coordinator works closely with central office staff, building principals, teachers, parents, students, and external organizations to ensure the smooth operation of the event. This contract and hourly employment position focuses on handling the logistical and administrative details necessary to create an exciting and well-run competition. The coordinator's duties include planning meetings with appropriate school and district personnel to establish timelines and expectations, serving as a communication link between school stakeholders, coordinating cooperation with outside agencies relevant to the event, and maintaining accurate financial records when needed. Additionally, the coordinator secures judges for the competition, arranges awards such as trophies, oversees follow-up activities at the regional, state, and national levels, and prepares news releases to highlight student achievements to the local media. All activities are conducted in compliance with established laws, policies, rules, and regulations, ensuring the event's integrity and success. The salary for this position is set as a county supplement, reflecting the additional responsibilities and the professional nature of the role. This role not only offers educators a chance to expand their professional skills but also helps promote academic excellence and community engagement within Putnam County Schools.
