Job Description
Cherokee Country Club, founded in 1907, stands as one of Tennessee’s premier recreational and social clubs, recognized as a valued asset to the Knoxville community. This esteemed club offers a rich blend of tradition and modernity by providing an exceptional family club experience characterized by warm hospitality and a comprehensive range of high-quality, year-round social and recreational activities. The club prides itself on fostering a strong sense of community among its member families, celebrating its history while continuously evolving to meet the changing desires and expectations of its members. As a cornerstone of the local social scene, Cherokee Country Club not only embodies the spirit of southern hospitality but also emphasizes excellence in service, community engagement, and member satisfaction.
The position available at Cherokee Country Club is for an Expeditor, also known as a Food Runner, who plays a crucial role in the dining experience by bridging the gap between the culinary team and the service staff. This hourly position pays $10 plus tip out and requires no prior experience, making it an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals interested in the restaurant and hospitality industry. The Expeditor is responsible for delivering food to members' tables swiftly and accurately, ensuring that every dish meets both the club’s and the server’s standards. This role demands clear communication, attention to detail, and a positive attitude as it involves working closely with the kitchen and front-of-house teams.
As an Expeditor, you will be stationed at the heart of restaurant operations, managing the flow of food orders, assembling tickets, garnishing plates, and performing quality checks before delivering meals. The role also includes setting up your station daily with necessary garnishes, sauces, and tools, and maintaining cleanliness throughout your shift. You will be attentive to the needs of both members and team members, effectively managing special requests, dietary restrictions, and ensuring all items are delivered correctly without verbal announcements. This position offers the chance to develop key hospitality skills in a supportive team environment, learning both sides of the food service business. Physical stamina is required due to the nature of the role, which involves long periods of standing, walking, lifting, and working in a dynamic, sometimes noisy environment.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong work ethic, punctuality, and a friendly, team-oriented disposition. An eagerness to help others, a positive attitude, and a genuine passion for service excellence are essential. The club encourages growth and development within the role, giving team members opportunities to build proficiency in club policies and standards while gaining hands-on experience in coordinated food and beverage service. Additional duties may include assisting with buffet setups, replenishments, cleanliness, and supporting food and beverage service during special functions and seasonal rotations like at the Overlook Bar & Grill. The Cherokee Country Club offers a rich learning environment for individuals aiming to advance in hospitality, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and a cooperative team spirit.
