Job Description

Langenstein's is a renowned and established gourmet food market and delicatessen that has proudly celebrated its 100th anniversary. This longstanding family-owned business is known for its quality products, impeccable customer service, and dedication to maintaining a warm community atmosphere. As a specialty food market, Langenstein's specializes in a diverse selection of gourmet and prepared foods, including fresh meats, seafood, deli items, bakery selections, and produce. Over the years, it has built a reputation for quality, tradition, and innovation in its culinary offerings, serving loyal customers who value excellent taste and superior service.

At Langenstein's, the workplace culture emphasizes respect for employees' personal time, as the stores close earlier than typical supermarkets and observe five major holidays annually. This focus on work-life balance complements their competitive wages, 401(k) plan, and medical insurance benefits. These factors contribute to Langenstein's continued success and help retain a talented and dedicated team.

The Cook role at Langenstein's is vital to the daily operations and overall customer experience. Reporting directly to the Kitchen Manager, the Cook is responsible for preparing and maintaining all items displayed in the chef's case, deli case, salad bar, and hot bar. This role requires a commitment to maintaining high standards for food quality, freshness, presentation, and safety. The Cook works a full-time schedule of 40 or more hours per week, including mandatory weekend shifts, underscoring the importance of dependability and a strong work ethic.

The Cook performs a variety of tasks linked to food preparation and kitchen maintenance, such as adhering to standardized recipes, packaging and labeling food items correctly, and understanding the operation and safety standards of kitchen machinery and equipment. Attention to detail is essential, especially regarding inventory control and ensuring that all food safety regulations and corporate standards are met. The Cook must also help maintain a clean and organized kitchen and department area, supporting the store's overall appearance and safety measures.

In addition to technical culinary skills, the role demands constant communication with the Kitchen Manager to relay any issues, recommend improvements, and coordinate daily tasks. Temperature monitoring of cases, coolers, and freezers is another routine duty requiring precision and reliability. The Cook supports the business's commitment to quality and service through proactive problem-solving and a self-motivated approach to work.

Physical demands are notable in this role, involving standing for extended periods on tile or concrete floors, lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds, and frequent bending, twisting, and reaching. The ability to safely operate various equipment such as bailers, pallet jacks, forklifts, and kitchen appliances is crucial. The Cook must maintain balance on floors that may be wet, slick, or uneven and climb ladders or shelving up to three feet tall. Puzzle-solving skills, basic math competency, and effective communication are also required to efficiently manage kitchen duties.

Overall, the Cook position at Langenstein's offers an exciting opportunity to work within a historic and respected food establishment that values culinary expertise, quality service, and a supportive work environment. Applicants interested in food preparation, kitchen operations, and delivering exceptional customer experiences will find this role engaging and rewarding.
