Job Description
Performance Foodservice is a leading broadline distributor within the Performance Food Group (PFG), renowned for its comprehensive supply chain solutions catering to a diverse array of customers. The company specializes in serving independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries, delivering not only quality food products but also expert guidance through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry specialists. This team collaborates closely with customers, offering strategic advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and business growth, ultimately helping restaurant owners and related businesses achieve their vision and success. Performance Foodservice embodies a commitment to excellence, reliability, and customer partnership, ensuring the highest standards of food distribution and service.
The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice represents a pivotal role within the company’s operations, directly contributing to the integrity and reliability of the food supply chain across the country. Offering a competitive salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 annually and a 4 to 5-day work week with availability required from Monday to Saturday, this role emphasizes flexibility and stability. New hires undergo a two-week comprehensive training program in Temple, TX, ensuring mastery of safety protocols, operational procedures, and customer service excellence.
As a CDL-A Driver, your responsibility extends beyond simply driving. You act as the face of Performance Foodservice, forming lasting, professional relationships with customers by ensuring punctual and safe delivery of food and related products. This role requires operating tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Safety and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations are paramount, as is a commitment to detailed inspections, timely reporting of safety issues, meticulous paperwork management, and adherence to company policies.
The role’s daily duties include performing required safety pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, verifying load security, and ensuring all freight is properly accounted for and handled. Drivers are expected to manage delivery schedules efficiently, interact professionally with customers to confirm deliveries and obtain proper signatures, and handle cash or checks when required. Additionally, CDL-A Drivers assist with unloading goods, managing damaged items appropriately, securing trailers, and maintaining cleanliness of work areas. Comprehensive record-keeping, including hours of service and vehicle logs, is also essential to meet federal and state regulations.
Performance Foodservice promotes a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment that values recognition and rewards. The company offers a generous sign-on bonus of $10,000 (terms apply) and competitive benefits including day one health and wellness coverage, a robust employee stock purchase plan, 401K with employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and opportunities for career advancement. As an integral part of America’s food distribution network, CDL-A Drivers experience both the challenge and satisfaction of supporting vital supply chain functions in a company that prioritizes employee welfare and development.
