The Food & Nutrition Services Department plays a critical role within the district by ensuring that students receive nutritionally adequate and fiscally responsible meal programs. These programs comply with federal and state regulations, including guidelines established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Executive Director of Food & Nutrition Services is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and administration of these programs across multiple school facilities within the district.
The Executive Director’s responsibilities encompass a wide range of operational, administrative, and strategic tasks. They supervise department staff, develop job descriptions, plan menus that comply with USDA nutritional guidelines, and ensure adherence to federal and state meal benefits regulations. Additionally, the role includes the management of budgets, expenditures, payroll, and procurement processes related to food, equipment, and supplies. The Executive Director also collaborates with other district departments such as Physical Plant Operations to maintain facilities that meet health and safety standards necessary for the efficient operation of food services.
In this role, the Executive Director ensures that all food service facilities and operations are effective in meeting nutritional needs and continuously seeks improvements through evaluation and the adoption of new technologies. The position requires a strategic thinker with strong administrative skills and the ability to lead a large, multi-facility food service program. It also involves significant interaction with school and district staff, as well as state and federal agencies such as USDA and Florida Department of Agriculture (FLDOA), to implement, monitor, and report on nutritional programs.
This position is classified as exempt under the Educational Support Management Association of Broward, INC. (ESMAB) pay band E, with a salary range from $107,981 to $194,889, reflecting the level of responsibility and expertise required. Job Requirements
- An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- a minimum of ten years of experience in the field related to the title of the position

Job Duties
- Supervise staff as assigned in the performance of job duties
- plan, organize, and administer the functions of the Food & Nutrition Services Department
- develop and implement a system to provide for the control, administration, supervision, and operation of a cost-effective food service program
- develop and revise job descriptions
- provide leadership and direction to Food & Nutrition Services staff including selection, development, evaluation, and corrective action
- develop and implement a USDA compliant menu system
- oversee utilization of USDA meal programs and required reports
- implement and assure compliance with federal and state guidelines for free and reduced meal benefits program
- develop an annual budget reflecting required funding for meals, food items, supplies, operating expenses, salaries, and equipment
- approve expenditures
- direct payroll and timekeeping administration
- establish and implement purchasing systems and bidding specifications
- develop systems to maintain health and safety standards for facilities and equipment
- evaluate school food service facilities and recommend improvements
- identify and recommend new technology for operational improvement
