Job Requirements
- Ability to carry or lift items up to 75 pounds
- Ability to move safely around the kitchen
- Effective and safe handling of food and kitchen utensils
- Ability to bend, stoop, stand, and kneel
- Ability to withstand climate temperature changes in the work area
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Culinary arts courses, certifications or related degree preferred
- Two to four years experience supervising or managing kitchen staff in a high-volume kitchen
- Proven confidence in cooking skills and culinary abilities
- Attention to detail
- Good people management and communication skills
- Ability to lead a team and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Flexibility and adaptability to change
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
- Passion for teaching and mentoring others
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Job Duties
- Control the day-to-day culinary operations within company policies and staffing guidelines
- Maintain professional company image including kitchen cleanliness and staff appearance
- Maintain updated and accurate costing and documentation for dishes
- Establish procedures and schedule for inventory, determine stock levels
- Ensure security, proper storage, replenishment of food, materials, and equipment
- Maintain kitchen equipment in working order and ensure cleanliness according to health standards
- Resolve employee conflicts, customer issues, and supply problems efficiently
- Motivate and rally staff during busy periods
- Interact with guests courteously to resolve service issues
- Ensure consistent product and service standards
- Control food costs through ordering, inventory, and financial reviews
- Communicate standards and cooking methods clearly to staff
- Maintain a safe working environment to minimize injury risk
- Organize kitchen cleanliness and stock according to regulatory standards
- Create and maintain work schedules, shipments, cleaning schedules
- Recruit, interview, hire, supervise, motivate, and discipline team members
- Train employees regularly and mentor new staff
- Lead by example and foster a positive team environment
