The role of Executive Chef within Monarch Communities and Brandywine Senior Living is a pivotal leadership position, reporting directly to the Executive Director. This exempt, salaried position offers a competitive annual salary range of $75,000 to $80,000 and is tailored for culinary professionals passionate about senior living and hospitality. The Executive Chef is responsible for overseeing the entire dining department, ensuring the delivery of nutritious, well-presented meals that meet the unique dietary needs of senior residents. This role requires staffing management, planning, organizing kitchen operations, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines, and upholding sanitation and safety standards.
Additionally, the Executive Chef is tasked with developing and implementing policies and procedures, managing inventory, handling vendor relations, and ensuring operational budgets and expenses are well-managed. They play an active role in fostering community engagement by participating in and preparing for local events sponsored by the care community. This position demands strong leadership skills to build high-performing teams, maintain high morale, and manage occasional weekend shifts as Manager on Duty. The Executive Chef must also ensure that all food preparation and service align with health and safety regulations, including HACCP protocols, and special dietary accommodations like texture-modified foods. Job Requirements
- College degree or certification preferably in culinary arts, hospitality, nutrition, or business
- Minimum two years culinary services administration experience preferably in senior living
- ServSafe certification required
- Training and experience in cost control, food management, and diet therapy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Windows, Outlook, and Excel with ability to learn new applications
- Competent organizational, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, smell, and lift or carry up to 50 lbs with proper body mechanics
Job Qualifications
- College degree or certification preferably in culinary arts, hospitality, nutrition, or business
- Minimum of two years of culinary services administration experience preferably in senior living
- ServSafe certification
- Training and experience in cost control, food management, and diet therapy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) and ability to learn new applications
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Good judgment, problem solving, and decision-making skills
- Physical ability to perform job duties including lifting up to 50 lbs
Job Duties
- Promote mission and core values of Senior Living to residents, visitors, co-workers, and community
- Represent and interact positively to grow community occupancy
- Develop and implement strategies for labor, occupancy, expenses, and quality
- Interview, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff
- Evaluate resident and staff needs for dining program design
- Ensure compliance with personnel practices and regulations
- Assist in budget development and expense approval
- Prepare and participate in community events
- Build and maintain high performing team morale
- Maintain safe working and living environment
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment
- Manage vendor relationships and purchasing standards
- Provide weekend coverage as Manager on Duty
- Prepare and serve quality meals
- Meet special dietary needs and prepare texture modified foods
- Maintain compliance with food safety, record keeping, and risk management
- Monitor food preparation and storage to comply with regulations
- Maintain accurate temperature logs for food storage
- Participate in all scheduled in-service training
- Other duties as assigned
