The Waco Independent School District (Waco ISD) is a premier, long-standing client of Sodexo, serving approximately 15,000 students across 24 schools in Waco, Texas. As an established educational institution, Waco ISD is committed to providing its students with nutritious meals and quality culinary services that support their health and academic success. Sodexo partners with Waco ISD to manage culinary operations that maintain high standards of food quality, safety, and customer satisfaction, ensuring that student meal programs are both efficient and appealing.
The Executive Chef 3 position for Waco ISD is a strategic culinary leadership role responsible for overseeing all culinary activities across the district’s multiple school locations. This role demands a strong culinary background combined with the ability to apply innovative culinary trends to traditional school meal offerings. The Executive Chef will directly influence culinary training and food quality standards, managing purchasing, menu development, and food cost analysis to optimize operational efficiency and enhance student meal participation.
This position also includes oversight of the PrimeroEdge food management system, which supports inventory control and meal production processes across multiple units. The Executive Chef will ensure strict adherence to both Sodexo's and the USDA's culinary standards, including recipe compliance and food safety regulations, thereby guaranteeing that all meals served meet nutritional guidelines and quality benchmarks. Effective leadership and staff development are key components of the role as the Executive Chef will provide coaching, mentoring, and motivation to hourly frontline staff, fostering a team environment that delivers exceptional service.
In addition to daily culinary operations, the Executive Chef will coordinate catering functions for Waco ISD as well as Sodexo’s neighboring K-12 accounts, creating culinary promotions designed to increase student meal purchases and engagement. This role requires excellent communication skills, leadership, and a passion for food innovation to continuously improve the school dining experience. Job Requirements
- bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- three years management experience
- three years work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
- strong culinary background with the demonstrated ability to stay current with new culinary trends
- previous experience in a K-12 environment is preferred
- excellent leadership and communication skills
- strong coaching and employee development skills
- passion for food and innovation

Job Duties
- be responsible for purchasing, menu compliance, inventory, food cost analysis and food production
- oversee the PrimeroEdge food management system for multiple units
- menu development
- ensure Sodexo and USDA culinary standards including recipe compliance and food quality are implemented and maintained
- oversee catering functions within Waco ISD and Sodexo’s neighboring K-12 accounts
- have the ability and willingness to motivate, coach, mentor and develop frontline hourly-paid staff
- provide stellar customer/client service
- ensure food safety, sanitation and workplace safety standard compliance
- have working knowledge of automated food inventory, ordering, production and management systems
