Job Description

The Canyons Castle Pines is the premier new community in the Greater Denver area, launched in Fall 2019. Nestled just south of Denver, Colorado along the I-25 corridor, this master-planned community is developed by the highly respected Shea Homes Colorado team. Known for their commitment to quality and innovation, Shea Homes has partnered with BlueStar Resort & Golf to manage and oversee the community amenities, including the first luxury venue, The Exchange. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Executive Chef to join our full-time team at The Canyons Castle Pines. This role offers a competitive salary range of $75,000 to $80,000 annually, with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, paid time off, holidays, and 401(k) eligibility. The Executive Chef will be a key member of the Kitchen Management Team, reporting directly to the Director of Food & Beverage. This individual is responsible for strategic planning and daily management of all kitchen operations across multiple outlets within the community amenities.

The Executive Chef position demands a dynamic professional with a passion for culinary excellence and leadership. As the leader of the kitchen team, the Executive Chef will oversee menu planning, food and resource forecasting, inventory control, budgeting, and quality standards to deliver an unparalleled culinary experience. They will work closely with team members, guests, contractors, and suppliers to build positive relationships and foster a collaborative work culture. A commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in culinary offerings is essential to maintain the high standards that BlueStar Resort & Golf is known for.

In addition to operational responsibilities, the Executive Chef will focus on team development by hiring, training, scheduling, and appraising kitchen staff to enhance performance and professional growth. The role involves managing labor and inventory to maintain optimal food costs while upholding quality and value. Safety, cleanliness, and compliance with food safety standards are paramount, as is the ability to create a productive and enjoyable work environment for staff.

This position requires excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a strategic approach to leadership and kitchen management. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is necessary to meet the demands of onsite events and daily operations. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum two years experience as an executive chef or kitchen manager or equivalent
  • One to three years experience supervising a team or in a supervisory role
  • Current food handlers card
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret food service periodicals
  • Ability to understand recipe formats
  • Strong problem-solving and report writing skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to calculate costs and understand profit and loss

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum two years experience as an Executive Chef or Kitchen Manager, or completion of nationally ranked culinary or vocational school
  • One to three years experience supervising managers or in a supervisory role
  • American Culinary Federation Certified Chef de Cuisine or higher preferred
  • Current food handlers card
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel
  • Ability to read and interpret food service industry periodicals
  • Ability to understand standardized recipe formats
  • Skilled in problem-solving, writing reports, order and production guides
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to calculate food costs, menu pricing, discounts, and understand profit and loss statements
  • Creativity in developing innovative culinary programs
  • Strong budgetary and computational skills
  • Expertise in strategic planning, change management, problem-solving, decision-making, delegation, communication, time management, and employee development
  • Consistently maintains high work standards with attention to detail and accuracy

Job Duties

  • Communicate the core values and mission of BlueStar Resort & Golf to support company goals
  • Manage kitchen operations including forecasting inventory and budget, menu and food planning, resource planning, administrative tasks, and waste management
  • Develop positive customer relations through proactive interactions with team members, guests, contractors, and suppliers
  • Build a reputation by developing a talented and creative kitchen team, offering an innovative menu, and delivering exceptional culinary experiences
  • Plan menus, create purchase orders, assure all food is safe and fresh, and prepare menu items to meet and exceed guest expectations while controlling food costs
  • Manage weekly inventory and labor tracking
  • Write regular reports, order guides, production guides, and clean-up guides as needed
  • Execute budgets on a daily, monthly, and annual basis
  • Meet with kitchen staff to plan and solicit feedback
  • Create an enjoyable and productive work environment by leading by example and encouraging open communication regarding kitchen operations, safety, and human resources
  • Define and develop achievable goals for kitchen team members to enforce high performance and personal growth
  • Provide ongoing development and assist in obtaining culinary certifications for team members
  • Hire, manage, train, schedule, and appraise kitchen staff performance
  • Supervise staff in alignment with company values and policies, perform team member activities as needed, and recognize team success
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and collaborative working environment to inspire quality and commitment
  • Represent BlueStar Resort & Golf professionally in dress and speech
  • Maintain standards of excellence with continual improvement by staying informed of new products, market trends, and attending culinary exhibitions and educational seminars
  • Perform other duties as assigned
