Job Description

Mora Oak Park is a well-established, high-volume sushi and Asian fusion restaurant located at 201 Harrison Street in Oak Park, Illinois. With seating for 85 guests, Mora Oak Park is renowned for its innovative menu and commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences that blend classic Japanese flavors with modern culinary techniques. The restaurant prides itself on a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere, attracting a diverse clientele from the Oak Park and greater Chicago area who appreciate authentic sushi and Asian fusion dishes made from fresh, quality ingredients. As a respected player in the local dining scene, Mora Oak Park offers a vibrant and dynamic work environment where culinary creativity and precision are highly valued.

The restaurant is currently seeking an Executive Chef to join the team. This role is a unique opportunity for a motivated culinary leader to take complete ownership of all kitchen operations in a supportive and evolving environment. The ideal candidate is ambitious, self-driven, and experienced in managing high-volume kitchens with a strong emphasis on sushi and Asian cuisine. Mora Oak Park is in a rebuilding phase and needs a transformational leader who can stabilize the kitchen team, implement effective operational structures, and drive overall performance to new heights.

As the Executive Chef, you will lead both the sushi and hot line operations, ensuring impeccable food quality, consistency, and presentation. You will be responsible for hiring, training, and developing a reliable and motivated kitchen staff. The position offers full control of menu execution, food cost management, inventory, and ordering. Additionally, you will build and manage labor schedules with an eye toward efficiency and cost control. Close collaboration with ownership will be essential to refine the menu, boost profitability, and deliver a seamless guest experience. This role is designed for either an experienced current Executive Chef seeking a kitchen where they can exercise greater control and enjoy performance-based financial incentives or a strong Sous Chef ready to grow into a leadership position.

Compensation for this position includes a competitive base salary supplemented by performance-based bonuses that reward success in controlling food costs, managing labor effectively, maintaining team stability, and impacting the overall restaurant performance positively. Mora Oak Park supports its Executive Chef with hands-on ownership involvement during this transition period, ensuring resources and guidance are in place for success.

This Executive Chef role stands out in the culinary job market because it offers real ownership of the kitchen and a chance to rebuild and shape a high-functioning team. Beyond a typical chef position, it provides an enticing leadership challenge with visible impact and substantial upside potential in a respected restaurant known for quality and innovation. If you are ready to step into a leadership role immediately and help Mora Oak Park thrive in its next chapter, this opportunity could be the perfect fit.
