Job Description
Bamboo Sushi is a renowned restaurant of purpose located in Portland, Oregon. We pride ourselves on creating an exceptional dining experience that inspires through our food, service, and spirit. As an established sustainable sushi restaurant, Bamboo Sushi is committed not only to serving high-quality dishes but also to fostering a culture of positivity, accountability, and respect for all. We value equality in the workplace and strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and inspiring environment where everyone feels respected and empowered. Our team members work collaboratively with guests, partners, and the community to promote equal pay, equal rights, and equal opportunities for advancement. Located at 1409 NE Alberta St, Portland, OR, we offer great career opportunities that allow passionate culinary professionals to grow and excel within our organization.
We are currently seeking a dedicated Executive Chef to join our NE Portland location. This is a full-time position offering an annual salary range of $71,000 to $75,000, depending on experience, with an additional 10% bonus potential and quarterly bonuses. As part of our team, you will enjoy excellent benefits including health insurance options, life insurance, an employee assistance program, 401(k), vacation time of up to three weeks accrued during the first five years of employment, employee discounts, and opportunities for advancement and education within the company.
The Executive Chef position is critical to our mission, tasked with driving operational excellence in food quality, service, and guest experience. You will lead and oversee all kitchen and sushi operations, contributing directly to the restaurant's profitability by managing expenses and ensuring quality control on all menu items. This role involves hiring, training, and developing kitchen staff to maintain high standards of performance and safety. The Executive Chef must exercise independent judgment and discretion daily, handling sensitive and confidential information with professionalism. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of culinary experience and training, with at least two years in management roles leading back-of-house operations within a high-volume, full-service kitchen. Sushi experience is preferred but not mandatory.
Work at Bamboo Sushi is fast-paced and energetic, with a workplace culture that encourages team collaboration and accountability. Physical job demands include maneuvering within the restaurant and office to access equipment and supplies, operating basic restaurant and office machinery, ascending and descending stairs or ladders for maintenance tasks, and communicating effectively with customers despite noisy and distracting environments. Sensory requirements, such as distinguishing different taste profiles, are essential for maintaining the quality standards we uphold.
We are committed to making reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities throughout the employment process and in performing essential duties. Our HR department is available to discuss accommodations needed to support your success in this role. Join Bamboo Sushi and become part of a team dedicated to sustainability, culinary excellence, and community engagement while advancing your culinary career in a dynamic and rewarding setting.
