Job Requirements
- High school graduate or GED
- Certification as IFSAC or Pro-Board Firefighter I or equivalent
- HazMat Awareness and HazMat Operations certifications
- Completion of Washington State EMT or National Registry EMT-B certification
- Possession of valid Candidate Physical Ability Test within 12 months or ability to complete 1.5-mile run within 15 minutes
- Valid driver’s license with endorsements
- No more than two moving violations in past three years
- No reckless or negligent driving violation in past five years
- No driving while intoxicated in past ten years
- No more than one motor vehicle accident with citation in past three years
- No felony convictions or serious offenses
- No dishonorable discharge from U.S. armed forces
- No falsification of application materials
- Minimum age 18
Job Qualifications
- Currently employed full-time as a professional firefighter for two years or less or within two of the past five years
- At least 18 years of age at hire
- High school graduate or GED
- Certification as IFSAC, Pro-Board Firefighter I, or equivalent
- HazMat Awareness and Operations certifications
- Washington State EMT or National Registry EMT-B certification
- Passed CPAT or capable of completing a 1.5 mile run within 15 minutes
- Valid driver’s license with necessary endorsements
- No disqualifying driving violations or felony convictions
- Compliance with veterans' preference documentation if applicable
Job Duties
- Use all firefighting equipment to extinguish fires in buildings, grass, terrain, automobiles, or other hazardous materials
- Respond to hazardous environments wearing breathing apparatus and use specialized tools to save lives and protect property
- Drive emergency vehicles including aid, ALS, engine, aerial ladder, and rescue vehicles as qualified
- Prepare and maintain reports and records within assigned areas
- Respond to non-life threatening service calls assisting citizens
- Participate in hazardous materials response, fire prevention, or paramedic duties
- Conduct tours of facilities, apparatus, and equipment for public education
- Perform special assignments such as CPR class coordination, data entry, safety committee participation, and budget assistance
- Test facility, equipment and fire protection systems periodically and maintain records
- Research and present information at training sessions
- Perform fire safety inspections and issue warnings
- Conduct post-fire clean-up and salvage work
- Assist in emergency medical treatment including intravenous and drug therapy as needed
- Transport patients to medical facilities
- Develop pre-fire plans and emergency service information
- Complete detailed patient care reports
- Perform maintenance checks on facilities and equipment
- Carry out other duties within classification and training levels as assigned
