Job Description

Dignity Health - St. Joseph's Medical Center, established in 1899, is a prominent 355-bed acute care nonprofit hospital located in Stockton, California. This esteemed medical institution serves over 125,000 patients annually and boasts comprehensive healthcare services, including a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), advanced cancer care, heart care, and a family birth center. The hospital’s commitment to high-quality patient care and community service has earned it significant accolades, such as being named one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades in 2026 and achieving recognition as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performer by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The hospital is also a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center, underscoring its dedication to advanced medical care and patient safety.

As a member of the Dignity Health system, St. Joseph's Medical Center embodies the philosophy of compassion, respect, and excellence in healthcare. The hospital’s mission statement and core values guide every staff member to ensure a supportive environment for both patients and employees. Its strategic plan revolves around enhancing patient outcomes, improving operational efficiency, and fostering a culture of continuous performance improvement. Employees actively participate in the organization’s Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), reflecting a collective commitment to growth and service excellence.

The position offered is for an Environmental Services staff member responsible for maintaining the hospital’s cleanliness and safety. This role is vital to the hospital’s day-to-day operations because a sanitary, organized, and secure environment is essential not only for patient health and safety but also for the well-being of medical staff and visitors. The role demands dedication to fulfilling assigned duties in a timely and thorough manner while strictly adhering to departmental policies, safety regulations, and medical center protocols.

The Environmental Services position operates across all shifts, including weekends and holidays, reflecting the hospital’s need for consistent upkeep and sanitation standards around the clock. The successful candidate will be responsible for tasks such as cleaning patient lounges, restrooms, exam rooms, and offices. They will ensure these areas are stocked with adequate disposable supplies, equipment is well-maintained and operational, and that all duties promote a safe and hygienic environment.

This role requires an individual who can work independently while contributing to the hospital’s overall mission and values. Understanding and following safety procedures, using cleaning equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions, and supporting the hospital’s performance goals are essential components of this position. This commitment ensures the hospital maintains an environment conducive to healing and optimal healthcare delivery.

The pay range for this role is between $29.77 and $33.89 per hour, reflecting the organization’s respect for the skills and dedication required to maintain such a vital service. This employment opportunity provides a meaningful way to contribute to community health in a reputable healthcare setting while working with a team dedicated to excellence and compassionate care.
