Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in Environmental Services preferred
  • Ability to read signs, labels and notices
  • Ability to speak, read and understand English
  • Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high activity environment
  • Commitment to maintaining safety standards
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

Job Qualifications

  • Environmental Services training helpful
  • Must be able to read signs, labels and notices
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English
  • Prior Environmental Services experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Dust or wet mops floor and vacuum carpets
  • Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, windowsills, vents and related furnishings
  • Clean and polish mirrors, glass partitions, doors and similar interior glass surfaces
  • Scour, clean or polish water fountains, bathtubs, showers, lavatories or other fixtures and walls, counters, or other surfaces
  • Replenish bathroom supplies of paper towels, soap and other items from storage
  • Dispose of refuse in specific containers as required (i.e., Bio-Waste) and regular trash
  • Operate mechanical equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and other carpet cleaning equipment after appropriate instructions
  • Clean custodial equipment and storage areas
  • Arrange cleaning supplies, and request needed supplies for Supervisor
  • Report broken or inoperative equipment to Supervisor
  • Collect and place soiled linens in laundry collection area
  • Constantly look for areas that are not clean and demonstrate initiative to clean them
  • Assist other housekeeping or hospital personnel as needed
  • Work harmoniously with a variety of individual personalities, often in a high activity environment
  • Demonstrate consistent use of safety measures associated with chemicals and equipment
  • Demonstrate responsibilities for fire, emergencies, and disasters after appropriate instructions
  • Be flexible to meet changing conditions
  • Greet patients and visitors courteously and professionally
  • Participate in the departmental quality improvement process, CQI
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director and Supervisor
  • Participate in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities, and seek opportunities to improve department and inter-department processes
  • Serve as a resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contribute to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care
  • Take appropriate measures to ensure safety of patients
