Job Description
Ochsner Health has a long-standing history of commitment and excellence, dating back to its establishment in 1942. With over 80 years of dedication to serve, heal, lead, educate, and innovate, Ochsner Health is a renowned healthcare provider recognized for its high standards and compassionate care. The organization has made significant strides over the decades but continues to uphold its foundational values that center around patient care and community service. Ochsner Health operates a diverse network of hospitals, clinics, and outpatient facilities, striving to provide world-class medical services while fostering a supportive work environment for its employees. The organization's success is largely attributed to the dedication and expertise of its workforce, who embody its mission every day.
The role of Environmental Services Technician at Ochsner Health is essential to maintaining a clean, safe, and aseptic environment throughout guest, patient, public, clinical, and administrative areas. This position supports the healthcare facility’s operational excellence by ensuring hygienic conditions that protect patients, visitors, and staff from potential infections or hazards. The employee is charged with the responsibility of using cleaning equipment and chemicals safely and effectively to maintain cleanliness standards that comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including Joint Commission and CMS requirements.
The Environmental Services Technician plays a pivotal role, not only in cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas but also by supporting the restocking of café and bar supplies, assisting with special cleaning projects, and preparing rooms for turnover. This helps ensure a smooth workflow within patient and clinical areas, contributing directly to patient comfort and safety. The successful candidate must exhibit strong interpersonal skills, be able to follow instructions clearly, work independently with minimal supervision, and maintain a flexible schedule as needed. The role requires physical stamina since it involves exerting force to move objects, handling cleaning chemicals safely, and exposure to biohazards common in healthcare settings.
This position is suitable for individuals who have experience with environmental services equipment such as dust mops, wet mops, buckets, wringers, and spray bottles. While no formal educational degree is required, the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English is necessary to understand instructions and interact with team members. Previous experience in a similar environment is preferred but not mandatory. The job offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to healthcare operations where every task performed is integral to patient care quality and safety.
Ochsner Health provides a workplace that promotes equal opportunity employment and is committed to reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. The organization also emphasizes adherence to compliance and privacy standards, ensuring a professional and ethical working environment. This role is on-site owing to the nature of work and is critical for the daily cleaning and upkeep of healthcare facilities where health and safety are paramount.
Candidates interested in making a difference in a supportive and dynamic healthcare setting are encouraged to apply. Ochsner Health continues to be an excellent employer for those who want to contribute directly to improving patient care outcomes through maintaining a clean and safe environment.
