Job Description
The City of Amarillo, a vibrant and growing city in Texas, is seeking a dedicated professional to join its Civic Center Operations team. The City of Amarillo is known for its commitment to providing high-quality public services and fostering a positive workplace culture that supports employee growth and development. Known for its dynamic and inclusive work environment, the city values teamwork, innovation, and excellent customer service, making it a great place to build a career in public service. The Civic Center is a key facility within the city, hosting a wide array of events including concerts, exhibitions, banquets, and special community programs that require efficient coordination and supervision to ensure success.
We are looking for a motivated Civic Center Supervisor to oversee daily operations at the Civic Center Complex. This non-exempt, hourly position offers a pay rate of $19.50 per hour and includes supervisory responsibilities over a mix of permanent, part-time, and contract employees. Reporting directly to the Civic Center Event Manager, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the facility's use, event coordination, client services and financial transactions. This role demands strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
The Civic Center Supervisor will be entrusted with ensuring the smooth execution of events by planning and coordinating with building attendants and other staff. The role includes overseeing facility operations such as setups, change-overs, and cleaning, and requires hands-on involvement in technical aspects such as setting up and striking audio-visual equipment, and installing phone and internet lines. This position also involves direct client interaction, where the supervisor conducts facility tours, answers questions, coordinates equipment and labor needs, and manages contract services including security and usher staff.
A key responsibility is monitoring events to ensure compliance with Civic Center policies and guaranteeing the safety and satisfaction of patrons and clients. This includes front-of-house management during performances and handling security operations before, during, and after events. The supervisor also plays a role in administrative and financial duties such as preparing event invoices, conducting merchandise settlements, handling payments, and maintaining detailed records and event statistics.
Candidates must be prepared to perform other duties as assigned and work flexible hours—including long shifts, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays—demonstrating a commitment to the facility’s mission and community engagement. The role requires up to moderate physical exertion including lifting up to 50 pounds and performing various physical tasks such as standing, walking, and operating office equipment. Safety is paramount, and the supervisor will conduct regular inspections to maintain compliance with city codes and relevant laws.
As the ideal candidate, you will bring a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least two years of supervisory experience and preferably experience in auditorium or theatrical operations. Certifications like Trained Crowd Manager and First Aid and CPR/AED are required upon hire, while event planning certifications like Certified Meeting Professional are preferred. The ability to operate complex computer applications, strong communication skills, and a professional business attire mindset round out the qualifications needed to succeed in this important role.
Join the City of Amarillo and become part of a team that values dedication, professionalism, and service excellence. We support our employees with opportunities for professional development and a collaborative workplace that encourages growth. The Civic Center Supervisor position is a fantastic opportunity for those passionate about event management, public service, and community involvement.
