Job Description

The City of Santa Clarita is a dynamic and vibrant municipality known for its commitment to community engagement, cultural enrichment, and high-quality public services. As a progressive city in California, Santa Clarita continuously strives to enhance the quality of life for its residents by hosting diverse events and programs throughout the year. The city's Arts and Events Division plays a pivotal role in this endeavor by organizing a wide range of cultural, recreational, and entertainment programs designed to bring the community together and celebrate its unique identity. By sponsoring events such as the SENSES Block Party, Celebrate cultural series, City Cinemas, Art Hop, The Cowboy Festival, Concerts in the Park, and Light Up Main Street, the city offers residents and visitors numerous opportunities to experience engaging and memorable cultural experiences. The city's dedication to fostering community involvement through public events enhances social cohesion, supports local artists and performers, and boosts the local economy.

The position of Events Program Specialist, under the direction of the Arts and Events Administrator, is integral to the successful implementation and growth of these programs. This role involves hands-on management and participation in specialized events programs, ensuring all logistical and planning aspects are effectively handled. The specialist is responsible for training, scheduling, and overseeing a diverse team of full-time, part-time, temporary, seasonal staff, and volunteers. This supervisory responsibility requires strong leadership skills to align team efforts with the division's vision and the broader goals of the city.

In addition to staff management, this role demands active involvement in event logistics, including setup and teardown activities, coordination with internal departments, external partners, and contractors, and continuous evaluation of program success. Event programs require contemporary and innovative approaches, and the specialist must actively contribute to strategic planning efforts at various organizational levels to improve and expand city events. Working hours for this position are variable, including nights, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the nature of public events.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for professionals passionate about community arts and event management to be part of a city government entity that values public service, cultural diversity, and community engagement. The position also includes competitive compensation and benefits along with enrollment in the California Public Employees' Retirement System, signaling a secure and rewarding career path. Candidates seeking to make a meaningful impact through event programming in a supportive, community-focused environment will find this role highly fulfilling.
