Job Description

The City of Amarillo, known for its vibrant community and dedication to public service, is currently seeking a qualified individual to join its Civic Center Operations team in a pivotal supervisory role. This position offers an hourly wage of $19.50 and falls under the G-07 pay grade, with a non-exempt FLSA status, ensuring compliance with labor regulations while offering competitive compensation to its employees. The Civic Center Operations unit serves as an essential hub for community events, concerts, exhibitions, and various performances that contribute significantly to the city's cultural and entertainment landscape. The position reports directly to the Civic Center Event Manager and carries supervisory responsibilities that include managing both permanent and part-time staff as well as contract employees such as ushers and security personnel. The successful candidate will oversee event coordination and execution, ensuring high-quality customer service and operational efficiency daily. Responsibilities also encompass handling substantial sums of money, illustrating the need for a trustworthy and detail-oriented professional. This role is vital in ensuring that all events held at the Civic Center Complex run seamlessly, from initial client interactions to the final cleanup and safety inspections. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of knowledge in auditorium and theatrical operations, event management, and supervisory experience, combined with a commitment to exceptional client service and organizational excellence.

Additional duties include managing event setups, coordinating labor, overseeing security before, during, and after events, and maintaining the cleanliness and overall condition of the Civic Center. The candidate will be responsible for executing in-house safety inspections to ensure compliance with facility policies and relevant laws. They will also assist in administrative tasks such as research projects, budgeting processes, and creating event-related documentation and signage. This hands-on position requires physical activity and flexibility, including the ability to work long, variable hours during nights, weekends, and holidays. Business professional attire is mandatory, reflecting the professionalism expected in client interactions and public-facing duties. Certification in first aid, CPR/AED, and crowd management is required upon hire, with preference given to those holding event planning related certifications. Job Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years in a supervisory position
  • Two years of experience in auditorium and theatrical operations preferred
  • Completion of Trained Crowd Manager class required upon hire
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR/AED required upon hire
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Certified Meeting Professional or other event planning related certification preferred
  • Business professional attire is required
  • Ability to work long hours, rotating shifts, split shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Supervises use of Civic Center Complex
  • Supervises permanent, part-time and contract staff including Ushers, Security, and other contract services
  • Plans and coordinates with Building Attendant Crew and other staff to ensure proper use of labor and time in set-ups, change-overs, and cleaning of facility
  • Meets with potential clients to give tours, answer questions and explain policies
  • Meets with clients to coordinate equipment, services and labor needs for upcoming events
  • Oversees all client contact to discuss and arrange set-ups, event execution and the use of outside contractors
  • Sets up and strikes all AV equipment for those events without technical labor, as well as phone and internet lines if needed
  • Labels temporary seating for ticketed events in Coliseum and the Auditorium
  • Researches administrative projects as assigned
  • Creates and maintains all signage for events including marquees, directory slips and specific event safety signs
  • Monitors scheduled events to observe activities and enforce Civic Center Complex policies and regulations
  • Monitors non-ticketed and ticketed events in Civic Center Complex to ensure client satisfaction and patron safety
  • Oversees Front of House for events in performance venues to ensure priorities are met within time constraints
  • Manages security for the facilities before, during and after events
  • Oversees to the overall cleanliness, maintenance and set-up of the Civic Center Complex
  • Performs in-house safety inspections to ensure compliance with facility policies, city codes, and state and federal laws
  • Performs research, assembles reports, makes recommendations concerning improvements, and assists with budgeting process
  • Computes facility charges, creates event invoices, conducts settlements of merchandise commissions and collects or arranges for payment of fees, novelty percentages, etc., depositing into the building safe at the conclusion of event
  • Maintains event files, including event related statistics
  • Provides quality customer service to lessees, patrons and guests
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
