The role of Events Manager is based at the UT Main Campus and is a key position within the University Unions department. This job is a full-time exempt position with a weekly schedule of 40 hours, typically working from Wednesday through Sunday, 1 pm to 10 pm, though hours may vary depending on event schedules and building operations. The Events Manager will manage event operating services at central campus locations including The Texas Union and Hogg Memorial Auditorium. This position involves overseeing the coordination, planning, and execution of a wide variety of events ranging from university-sponsored programs to private facility rentals.

The Events Manager is responsible for ensuring that event spaces are set up and prepared according to the specific needs of each reservation, maintaining a positive, customer-service-focused environment, and addressing needs swiftly and creatively throughout the event. They will serve as the on-site representative of the University Unions, working closely with performers, private users, university departments, and external agencies to provide seamless event execution. This position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to supervise a team indirectly while fostering a welcoming atmosphere for all campus community members.

In addition to event operations, the role encompasses event planning and administrative duties, including the use of specialized software like Mazevo and social tables for reservations and event layout visualization. The Events Manager also handles customer service inquiries, offering guidance on event policies and university resources to prospective event planners. An emphasis on professional development is integral to this position, encouraging participation in leadership programs and contributing to committees such as Student Employee Appreciation Week, reinforcing UT Austin's culture of mentorship and continuous learning.

Candidates for this position should hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree and have 1-2 years of experience in venue management or event programming, with a strong customer service orientation and the ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Preferred candidates will have experience within higher education settings, advanced degrees in relevant fields such as Event Management or Higher Education, and 2 or more years of related experience. The salary for this position is $52,500 annually, and materials required for application include a resume or CV, three work references (at least one being a supervisor), and a letter of interest.

Job Duties

  • Serve as the on-site University Unions representative for Hogg Memorial Auditorium and Texas Union events
  • Support student organizations, university departments, staff organizations and external groups to ensure smooth and safe completion of events
  • Ensure event spaces are set and ready before each reservation and oversee post-event strike and clean up
  • Create a positive, welcoming, student-centered, and customer-service focused event environment
  • Respond to and creatively resolve student and guest needs during events
  • Monitor and communicate changes in day-of event logistics
  • Use Mazevo and diagramming software to manage reservations and assist clients through the event planning process
  • Answer questions in person, over phone and email regarding event planning, policies and university resources
  • Participate in professional development programs and committees to support student employee growth and university culture
