Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a prominent leader in the arts and crafts retail industry, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels is the premier destination for creative individuals and families seeking supplies, inspiration, and celebrations. Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, reinforcing its commitment to both creativity and bespoke solutions. The company emphasizes fostering an inclusive environment for all team members, focusing on collaboration, creativity, and customer engagement. Michaels prioritizes employee wellbeing and offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts.

This position within Michaels calls for a dynamic, organized, and creative individual who can plan, coordinate, and facilitate events including children's birthday parties and craft classes within the store's lively environment. The role is designed to provide a stress-free, engaging experience for guests of all ages, ensuring that every event sparkles with fun, creativity, and seamless execution. The Event Coordinator will be responsible for managing multiple events concurrently, engaging participants, and maintaining high standards of customer service in alignment with Michaels' brand promises. This includes administrative duties such as handling inquiries via phone and email, adjusting event plans based on client feedback, and developing contingency plans for smooth operations.

In addition to event duties, the role involves vital customer-facing responsibilities such as assisting guests with product selection, educating customers about the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Card, and facilitating enrollment processes. Operational tasks like truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and maintaining planogram standards are crucial to supporting the store's overall functionality. The Event Coordinator also helps maintain the store's cleanliness and safety standards, participates in shrink and safety programs, and supports the Custom Framing selling and production processes.

Ideal candidates will possess excellent people skills, organizational prowess, and the ability to handle job stress effectively while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude towards guests and coworkers alike. Prior experience with children’s events and retail or customer service experience is highly preferred. Physical stamina is essential as the role requires standing for long periods, lifting heavy items, and occasional use of ladders. Candidates should be comfortable working in a public retail environment with variable climate conditions in some areas and work schedules that may include nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Michaels is committed to diversity, equity, and providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to be part of a passionate team dedicated to fueling creativity and celebration in every community it serves. Experience the fulfilling role of creating memorable events and exceptional customer experiences while working with one of North America’s most respected retail brands.
