The University of Maryland, Baltimore’s Campus Center Event Services is currently seeking a full-time Events Coordinator to join their dedicated team. This role is essential in providing professional and administrative support for events held within the SMC Campus Center. The Events Coordinator collaborates closely with internal campus departments, affiliated groups, and external clients to facilitate a smooth event experience. This includes scheduling, logistics, and technical support to ensure every event meets its objectives. A significant component of the role is managing the recruitment, training, supervision, and retention of student staff, part-time employees, and volunteers, which requires strong leadership and organizational skills. The Events Coordinator plays a critical role in liaising with various departments such as Student Affairs, Facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, security, parking, and food services to coordinate event logistics efficiently.

The hiring range for this position is between $52,000 and $60,000 annually, depending on education and experience.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but related experience may be substituted
  • Minimum of two years of related event or meeting management experience
  • Knowledge of special event planning and facility requirements
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio-visual equipment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Must comply with Clery Act regulations as a campus security authority
  • Proficient in using information technology tools like word processing, spreadsheets, and databases

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or related field
  • Two years of experience in event or meeting management, fundraising or development, public or client relations
  • Knowledge of special event programming
  • Familiarity with facility and equipment requirements for special events
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio/visual and video equipment
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Ability to exercise initiative, resourcefulness, and sound judgment
  • Experience in negotiating and gaining agreement from interested parties
  • Related experience may be substituted for education

Job Duties

  • Provide administrative, logistics, and technical support within the Event Services team
  • Recruit, train, retain, and supervise student staff, part-time employees, and volunteers
  • Coordinate meeting logistics with on-campus departments
  • Serve as liaison with SMC Campus Center operations, Student Affairs, facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, security, parking, and food services
  • Manage requests and schedule audio-visual reservations for event spaces including setup and strike
  • Oversee proper execution of facility rentals for internal and external events
  • Handle logistic aspects of events including setup, strike, furniture arrangements, audio-visual services, and catering
