Job Description

Michaels is a leading retail company specializing in arts and crafts supplies, dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration across North America. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores in 49 states and Canada, along with a robust online presence through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company is not only a retail giant but also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is renowned for being the ultimate destination for creative enthusiasts and is committed to providing an inspiring shopping experience for customers of all ages.

The role of Event Coordinator at Michaels, specifically at the Anchorage-Glenn Hwy store in Alaska, is an exciting opportunity designed for individuals passionate about creating memorable and engaging events within the retail environment. This position primarily involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events including children's birthday parties and craft classes, ensuring a fun and stress-free experience for all guests. As an Event Coordinator, you will serve as a friendly and approachable face for customers, helping them shop, locate products, and guiding them through a seamless checkout process. Additionally, the role includes essential operational responsibilities such as truck unloading, merchandising, and maintaining store recovery standards to uphold Michaels' brand promises.

A significant part of this role involves detailed event coordination where the candidate will manage multiple events simultaneously, engaging with clients ranging from young children to older adults by fostering an environment full of creativity and enjoyment. The Event Coordinator will demonstrate craft projects, perform face painting, and manage party add-ons like goody bags and balloons to meet company standards. Effective communication is crucial as this role requires interaction with clients and store teams to ensure client satisfaction, adjusting event plans based on feedback and preparing backup plans when necessary. Cleanliness and safety standards must be upheld before, during, and after events, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.

Customer experience is another core component of this position. The Event Coordinator helps customers with their shopping needs, provides fast and friendly checkout services, and promotes the benefits of Michaels' Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards. The role also supports omnichannel retail processes such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Participants will be involved in merchandising tasks, stock management, planograms, and implementing shrink and safety policies.

The ideal candidate for this position should be energetic, enthusiastic, and skilled in dealing with diverse age groups, especially children. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, excellent people skills, and the ability to manage stress effectively are essential. Experience in retail or customer service, along with proficiency in organizing events and solving problems creatively, is highly valued. Physically, the role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, move around the store, and perform physical tasks such as lifting and reaching.

Michaels is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusivity in its workforce. They are committed to supporting Team Members with disabilities by providing reasonable accommodations to ensure full participation in all employment processes. The company emphasizes a positive work environment aligned with its core values and vision.

Benefits offered to team members include comprehensive health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision; paid time off; tuition assistance; generous employee discounts; and more. These benefits underscore Michaels' commitment to the well-being and development of its workforce, making it a rewarding place to build a career in retail and event coordination.
