The Event Coordinator role is a dynamic and engaging position, perfect for individuals who are passionate about arts and crafts, enjoy working with people of all ages, and have a flair for planning and organizing.

As an Event Coordinator, your primary responsibility will be to plan, coordinate, and facilitate a variety of in-store events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes. This role requires a blend of creativity, customer service, and operational skills. You will be the face of fun and creativity for guests ranging from young children to seniors, ensuring each event is seamlessly executed and enjoyable for all participants.

Your daily activities will include engaging with customers to create a memorable, stress-free experience through hands-on crafting activities, face painting, and party enhancements like goody bags and balloons. Beyond event coordination, you will assist customers with shopping needs, provide a fast and friendly checkout experience, and support essential operational tasks such as merchandise stocking, truck unloading, and store cleanliness.

Effective communication and organizational skills are critical in this role, as you will regularly interact with clients and team members, manage event logistics, and complete administrative duties such as answering emails and making phone calls. Adaptability and creative problem-solving are essential, as you will need to adjust event plans based on client feedback and develop contingency plans to ensure client satisfaction and successful event outcomes.

In this role, you will also contribute to maintaining the store's safety and cleanliness standards, promoting a welcoming environment for both customers and team members. Your involvement in cross-training activities such as custom framing selling and production further highlights the varied and enriching nature of this position.​

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in event coordination or customer service preferred
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift heavy boxes and perform physical tasks
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to remain positive and respectful in difficult situations
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and early mornings
  • Must satisfy federal, state, and local legal requirements

Job Duties

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate events (including kids birthday parties) within a Michaels store to provide a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience for guests
  • Deliver friendly customer service by helping customers shop at our store and find what they're looking for
  • Ensure all customers receive a fast and friendly checkout experience
  • Complete operational tasks including truck unload, merchandise duties, and maintaining store recovery standards as needed to deliver our Brand Promises
  • Event Coordination
  • Plan and coordinate multiple events at once including children's birthday parties and other craft classes or events
  • Engage with clients of all ages, from 4 to 94+, by creating an environment of fun and creativity
  • Demonstrate and instruct party participants in the completion of craft projects, perform face painting and other activities
  • Facilitate and implement party add-ons such as goody bags, balloons, etc
  • to company standards
  • Communicate events with clients and store team members
  • Complete administrative tasks such as answering emails, making phone calls, and completing paperwork as needed
  • Adjust plans and events based on client's feedback and needs
  • Create backup or emergency plans to be executed as needed
  • Ensure client satisfaction for scheduled events
  • Uphold the company's cleanliness and safety standards
  • Set up, break down, and clean before and after each event
  • Help customers shop, locate products, and provide them with solutions
  • Provide fast and friendly check out experience
  • Engage customers on benefits of Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments
  • Educate customer on Voice of Customer (VOC) survey
  • Assist with Omni channel processes, including Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS)
  • Participate in the truck un-load, stocking and planogram (POGs) processes
  • Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance
  • Perform Store in Stock Optimization (SISO) and AD set duties as assigned
  • Support shrink and safety programs
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Company programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and requirements
