Job Description

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is a premier academic medical institution committed to improving health and advancing medical knowledge through research, education, and patient care. Situated in an environment that encourages scientific curiosity, innovation, and community collaboration, MCW is known for its dedication to compassionate care and excellence in medical education. The college fosters a diverse and inclusive environment that respects and values varied perspectives and backgrounds, creating a thriving community where faculty, staff, and students work together to achieve common goals. MCW places a strong emphasis on its organizational values: Caring, Collaborative, Curiosity, Inclusive, Integrity, and Respect, which guide its mission and daily operations.

This employment opportunity is for a critical role within the MCW Cancer Center focused on increasing community engagement through cycling-related fundraising events. The position is an independent role that reports to the Managing Director. The individual hired will be responsible for growing participation from Wisconsin communities in the Cancer Center’s signature bike ride fundraiser event, known as Audaxity. This role includes identifying and recruiting new riders and team captains to ensure robust involvement in the event. Additionally, the role entails comprehensive event planning and execution, working closely with key stakeholders such as the Managing Director and the Team Building Director. Besides organizing the main bike ride, the role involves overseeing a variety of related ancillary events including outreach activities, captains’ meetings, team rallies, fundraising events, and training rides.

The successful candidate will also contribute to outreach strategy development, collaborating with the MCW Office of Communications and Brand Strategy as well as the Cancer Center Communications team to create compelling promotional materials including printed collateral and video storytelling. By serving as a community ambassador for the Audaxity event, the incumbent will act as a resource hub for riders and volunteers, ensuring they have access to essential event information.

Strategic alignment with MCW’s fundraising goals, brand strategy, and philanthropy objectives is a key responsibility of this role. This involves partnering with various MCW departments and managing external vendor relationships, including contract negotiations compliant with MCW guidelines. The position requires active participation and leadership in committees and informational meetings where planning, facilitation, and follow-up on action items are essential.

The role demands strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively under pressure. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism in interacting with executive leadership and the ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team. Operational duties also include managing financial transactions related to registrations and donations for fundraising activities.

This position is well-suited for professionals with at least five years of experience, preferably with event planning expertise in an academic setting. A bachelor’s degree is required, and degrees in communications, hospitality, or marketing are preferred. Physical demands include occasional lifting of moderate weight materials and the ability to stand or walk for extended periods. The work environment is generally controlled but may involve occasional exposure to dust, noise, or temperature fluctuations.

MCW offers outstanding healthcare coverage including health, vision, and dental insurance, a 403B retirement package, competitive vacation and paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, paid parental leave, employee and family assistance programs, pet insurance, onsite fitness facilities with classes, and discounted rates for local services. MCW is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
