Job Description

The University of San Diego is seeking a full-time temporary Events & Marketing Manager to support the San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative (SDRCC) within the Office of the Vice President and Provost. This position is benefit-eligible and expects to run through June 30, 2027, with potential renewal depending on performance and funding. The SDRCC advances climate action and expertise within the San Diego region, sponsoring programs and events focused on climate change solutions. The Events & Marketing Manager will play a vital role in leading and managing the collaborative's communications, marketing, and event management initiatives. Key responsibilities include organizing, producing, and overseeing SDRCC events and programs, developing outreach materials, and coordinating communication strategies across multiple channels including social media, websites, newsletters, and printed media.

The manager will collaborate closely with SDRCC leadership and program staff to set priorities for special events, create marketing campaigns to boost program visibility, and refine communication resources such as websites, email lists, and digital libraries. Specific duties encompass the detailed management of event logistics both in-person and virtual, coordinating speakers and venues, preparing event agendas and marketing collateral, and handling post-event tasks including surveys and reporting. Additionally, the manager will maintain strong communication networks with stakeholders and ensure that all event activities align strategically with SDRCC's goals.

This role requires a professional capable of working effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects and deadlines. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, sharp organizational abilities, and fluency in various event management and communication platforms such as Google Suite, Constant Contact, Salesforce, Adobe, and Canva. The position may require occasional work during early mornings, evenings, or weekends to attend to event needs and professional development. With a competitive salary range between $5,859 and $6,000 per month and excellent benefits including health, dental, vision insurance, retirement contributions, and access to fitness centers, this position offers an engaging opportunity to contribute to significant climate action initiatives in the San Diego region through one of California’s respected universities.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends occasionally
  • Preferred graduate degree may substitute for 1 year of experience
  • Professional fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Interest in communications, marketing, public relations, or resource development preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, sociology, business, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible project management, event management and/or administrative experience
  • Ability to take initiative, set priorities, work independently and complete tasks under pressure
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, students and administrators
  • Strong analytical, time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication and proofreading skills
  • Fluency in event management and communication design platforms including Google Suite applications, Cascade, Constant Contact, Salesforce, Adobe, and Canva

Job Duties

  • Lead, in partnership with SDRCC leadership and team members, coordination of events and programs effectively
  • Serve as primary lead contact for all SDRCC events and programs and provide oversight and backup support for smaller events and programs led by individual program managers as needed
  • Create and maintain event policy and procedures for virtual and in-person events
  • Coordinate with the Director and key team members to schedule dates, develop event agendas, branding, lead marketing needs, speaker communications, etc.
  • Work with the Director and Assistant Director of Operations to establish and manage event budgets and generate final budget reports
  • Identify specific event needs and secure space and/or equipment requests, coordinating as appropriate with facility and event resource providers
  • Oversee and coordinate day-of-event logistics and activities for all events including registration and parking, prepare rooms and signage, and ensure smooth event flow
  • Complete all post-event activities such as creating and distributing event surveys, compiling reports, and connecting with speakers and attendees
  • Maintain a calendar of events and deadlines
  • Handle requests for conference rooms, meeting spaces, and parking arrangements
  • Manage the development and dissemination of monthly newsletters, annual reports, and other communication materials
  • Develop and maintain communication channels through Constant Contact and social media
  • Create and update website content and manage outreach calendars
  • Support video creation and editing
  • Maintain master contact databases and member lists
  • Assist in designing engaging marketing materials
  • Lead development of SDRCC communications and outreach content as needed
