With state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, the college provides an inspiring environment where the arts can thrive and where students gain hands-on experience in their respective disciplines. This dynamic environment promotes collaboration among students, faculty, and visiting artists, enriching the academic and cultural life on campus.
The College of Arts & Sciences is currently recruiting for student Event Support Assistants to join their team in the Fine Arts Building. This part-time student assistant position is available to undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Alaska system and offers a minimum wage of $14.96 per hour. The role is designed for students who can work on an as-needed basis during the fall and spring semesters, primarily evenings and weekends, with potential additional hours during the summer. This position is ideal for students who are organized, dependable, and enjoy supporting live events and performances.
Event Support Assistants at the Fine Arts Building play a crucial role in ensuring events run smoothly by managing both front-of-house and behind-the-scenes operations. Front-of-house duties include ticket sales, patron attendance tracking, usher coordination, enforcing theater policies such as seating and food/drink regulations, maintaining a clean and safe lobby, and providing excellent customer service to patrons and visitors. Behind-the-scenes responsibilities include operating sound, lighting, recording, and video equipment, videotaping events for the building’s departments and resident organizations, and providing basic troubleshooting for audio/visual equipment in classrooms.
Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and interact positively with a variety of stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, clients, and patrons. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in high or tight spaces, and navigate small flights of stairs. Dependability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends are essential qualities for success in this role.
The position requires a minimum enrollment of six credit hours at the University of Alaska system during the semester of employment, or proof of enrollment for the preceding and upcoming semesters if employed between semesters, and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
