Texas Tech University, founded in 1923, is a prominent public research institution located in Lubbock, Texas. It serves a vibrant community of over 42,000 students on its 1,800-acre campus, which is renowned for its stunning Spanish Renaissance architecture and one of the largest public art collections in the United States. Texas Tech University comprises 13 colleges, including a prestigious School of Law and a distinguished School of Veterinary Medicine. The university is deeply rooted in the values of West Texas — hard work, grit, and authenticity — and is committed to providing a world-class, personalized educational experience. It fosters a culture of service, community engagement, and academic excellence. The university’s mission is to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their chosen fields while achieving research and scholarly accomplishments competitive with the nation’s leading institutions.
The Information Centers and Events Assistant role at Texas Tech University is a vital position that supports the smooth operation and management of the Student Union building and its associated events. This role involves assisting with the development and implementation of special events, facilitating seamless event production by communicating with vendors, guests, internal staff, and customers. The position carries responsibilities such as day-to-day supervision of the Information Centers, overseeing building events, coordinating logistics, staffing, and resources to ensure event readiness across various spaces like public areas, meeting rooms, and lounges.
Additionally, this role manages the operations of the games area, including pool and ping pong tables, ensuring equipment acquisition, maintenance, and repairs. A key function includes supervising, training, and scheduling a student crew of approximately 40 student employees, providing coaching, training in customer service, building procedures, and safety practices while maintaining training logs and creating work schedules aligned with building operations and event needs. The role also involves managing building equipment, supplies, and outdoor space inventories, ensuring proper ordering, use, and accountability, and supporting professional involvement in university-wide orientations, fairs, and signature events.
This position requires collaboration with various campus departments and external clients to align activities with Student Union & Activities standards and divisional priorities. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to multi-task, organize work, and maintain excellent communication among multiple stakeholders. This job offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Texas Tech University’s dynamic campus environment by ensuring successful event execution and exceptional customer service, enhancing both the student and community experience through effective management and teamwork. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and departmental budget guidelines.
