Job Description
The City of West Palm Beach, renowned for its vibrant community events and dedication to fostering cultural and recreational activities, is seeking a dynamic individual to join its team as a Logistics Coordinator for City events. The City is a prominent municipal government body that prides itself on organizing and hosting a variety of public events designed to enrich community life and promote local culture. Events such as the West Palm Beach GreenMarket, Clematis by Night, Screen on the Green, Sunday on the Waterfront, 4th on Flagler, and Holiday in Paradise are pivotal to the city’s community engagement efforts, drawing both residents and visitors alike in celebration of local art, food, and entertainment.
This exceptional role involves planning and implementing logistics for these widely attended city events under general supervision. The position specifically caters to the coordination of weekend events on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, as well as larger events produced by the City. This scheduling reflects the practical nature of the responsibilities, as many of the events occur during weekends and holiday periods. Compensation for this on-call role is set at $22.06 per hour, corresponding to Pay Grade 47. However, it is important to note that this is an on-call position and does not include employee benefits.
The Logistics Coordinator will play a central role in ensuring that these community gatherings operate smoothly, efficiently, and safely. This includes arranging event logistics, coordinating vendors and city services, handling setup and takedown, and attending to any challenges that arise during events. Working nights, weekends, and holidays are core aspects of this position, necessitating flexibility and dedication to the city’s event schedule.
Candidates for this role must exhibit strong organizational and communication skills to liaise effectively with multiple stakeholders, including city officials, vendors, performers, and the public. The position requires a proactive approach and the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining a client-focused attitude. Candidates are expected to have a background in recreation, leisure management, or related fields, supported by either formal education or significant event management experience.
To qualify, candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Alternatively, candidates may qualify by holding a high school diploma or GED with at least four years of event management experience or an associate’s degree in a related field with two years of relevant experience. Furthermore, a valid Florida driver’s license is mandatory, with stipulations that applicants must be able to obtain such within thirty days of employment if initially licensed out of state.
The City also underscores specific driving record requirements related to the position to ensure safety and compliance with local regulations. This includes restrictions on moving violations and driving under the influence (DUI) convictions. The educational credentials must come from recognized institutions accredited by proper authorities.
Applicants will go through a selection process that could comprise evaluation of training and experience, written examinations, structured interviews, or other assessment methods. The City of West Palm Beach is committed to equal employment opportunities and values the contributions of veterans, following Florida statutes regarding veterans’ preference.
