Job Description
The Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden is a renowned establishment dedicated to connecting people with the world’s vanishing wildlife and wild places in order to inspire meaningful conservation action. As a pivotal anchor within Oklahoma City, one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States and the nation’s 20th largest city, the Zoo continues to foster a strong bond between the community and the natural world. The Zoo and Botanical Garden serve as a hub of education, engagement, and entertainment, offering diverse programs, special events, and exhibit experiences that promote wildlife preservation and environmental stewardship. This organization prides itself on being a dynamic workplace where passionate professionals work together to support its mission of wildlife conservation and public education, making it a great place to build a meaningful career.
The Event Sales Coordinator position is a full-time role based out of Oklahoma City, providing an exciting opportunity for professionals to drive revenue growth and enhance community engagement through strategic sales initiatives. With a starting hourly pay between $19.27 and $24.09, and additional eligibility for bonus incentives based on sales performance, this position plays a vital role in the Zoo’s marketing team. The successful candidate will hold responsibility for identifying, cultivating, and securing new business opportunities aligned with the Zoo’s strategic objectives, targeting group sales and private event bookings. This means the role is centered on building a robust client pipeline, developing and executing sales strategies, and promoting the Zoo’s offerings throughout the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Alongside internal collaboration with marketing, event execution teams, and external partners such as community organizations, chambers of commerce, and local businesses, the Event Sales Coordinator will strengthen relationships that grow event revenues and attendance.
Key to this role is the ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships, as the Event Sales Coordinator will frequently attend networking events, conduct outreach including cold calls, and organize appointments with existing and potential clients. The position involves meticulous record-keeping of sales activities using CRM software to track transactions, appointments, and client interactions. There is also a cooperative component where the coordinator works closely with the Zoo’s food and beverage partner and non-profit partners to present cohesive customer experiences tailored to client needs. Responsibilities further include event proposal preparation, invoice management, conducting venue tours, and consistent review and adjustment of sales goals and action plans based on performance metrics and market trends. The role demands a proactive approach to stay current with industry standards by participating in workshops, seminars, and continuous professional development.
This job requires a candidate with at least three years of experience in sales or business development, preferably with an associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to outside sales and event promotion. The coordinator should have a valid Oklahoma motor vehicle operator’s license within thirty days of employment, a clean driver’s history, and successful completion of a pre-employment background check. The position offers a mix of indoor office work, outdoor engagements, and travel within the metro area to meet clients and attend events.
Joining the Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden means contributing to a shared vision in a thriving city known for its vibrant community and commitment to growth and sustainability. The Zoo’s team members take pride in their role in preserving biodiversity, fostering ecological awareness, and providing exceptional experiences for visitors. If you are dedicated, goal-oriented, and enthusiastic about wildlife conservation and sales, this role offers a unique chance to combine your passion with a rewarding career.
