Job Description
G&A Museum Operations Mantua LLC operates the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum of Rowan University located in Mantua Township, New Jersey. The Edelman Fossil Park & Museum is a world-class institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the fossil record of the region, providing educational programs, and connecting visitors with the natural history of our planet. The museum and park serve an important role in the community by offering hands-on experiences, interactive exhibits, and outreach events that inspire learning and awareness about the history of life on Earth.
As a growing and vibrant organization, the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and a commitment to educational excellence. Located near a beautiful 4-acre lake, the museum headquarters feature modern facilities including private offices, conference rooms, and staff lounges, all designed to support both employee well-being and an engaging visitor experience. This opportunity to join their team offers involvement with a purpose-driven mission to "Discover the Past. Protect the Future."
The Event Porter position is a vital part-time role at the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum focused on maintaining the cleanliness and overall presentation of the museum and event spaces. The Event Porter provides essential cleaning services before, during, and after museum events to ensure that guests enjoy a welcoming and pristine environment. Serving both indoor museum areas and exterior event locations like the Fossil Field Station, this role supports the smooth operation of events while minimizing disruption to visitors.
The ideal candidate for this position will have prior experience in general cleaning or custodial roles, preferably with exposure to museum, park, or nature center environments. Attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently are crucial to the success of this role. The Event Porter will be expected to follow established cleaning procedures and safety protocols while maintaining a professional demeanor in all interactions with guests and colleagues.
This role requires availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, often in varying weather conditions. Physical demands include the ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to lift or move up to 75 pounds regularly. The Event Porter will also assist with maintaining restrooms, responding to spill cleanups, and occasionally supporting public area cleaning during high attendance days.
Joining Edelman Fossil Park & Museum as an Event Porter offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to a small but impactful team. Employees benefit from a supportive work environment within a stunning natural setting, with opportunities for personal and professional growth. This is an excellent role for individuals passionate about preserving educational spaces and delivering top-quality service in a museum event context. By maintaining the highest facility standards, the Event Porter plays an integral role in creating memorable experiences for visitors and supporting the museum's mission of educational outreach and conservation.
